We all saw it coming. One of the most anticipated TV shows of the new fall season, Lone Star, has been cancelled after two episodes.
Lone Star centers around a handsome conman (James Wolk) who lives a double life to swindle investors and an oil tycoon family. He starts to have regrets and struggles to balance both lives and keep everybody happy. Others in the series are Jon Voight, Adrianne Palicki, Bryce Johnson, David Keith, Eloise Mumford, and Mark Deklin.
The FOX series debuted last week to a very disappointing 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 4.1 million total viewers. Last night, despite several days of buzz and campaigning to get new viewers, the ratings fell even lower to a 1.0 rating in the demo and 3.23 million viewers. As was the case in week one, many people who started watching tuned out before the episode was over. For whatever reason, it just didn’t click.
Lone Star has been cancelled effective immediately and the three remaining unaired episodes have been shelved. There’s no word if FOX will get around to releasing the remaining episodes at some point in the future.
Last week, the cast and crew were shooting the sixth installment. Production has now been shut down and it’s unclear if that episode was completed.
Lone Star’s spot will be filled by the season three premiere of Lie to Me.
What do you think? Are you sorry to see Lone Star be cancelled? If you watched, where do you think it went wrong?
UPDATE: Subsequent reports have indicated that there are six completed episodes with four left unaired.

Had lots of potential, fantastic cast , but too heavy on the white trash influence. Should have started out with reputable storyline with some integrity and left the criminal and white trash element weave through the story line instead of being the main element.
Very sad it didn’t make it.
Are you kidding me! I set my dvr to recors all apisodes next thing you know the show gets cancelled.. wow there are other show that aren’t interesting as lone star but yet those stupid shows stay for a long time, give lone star a second chance
I was extremely disappointed that this show ended before it really began. I watched the two shows and loved them. All the shows I like always seemed to be axed! The show had depth to it unlike most other shows. It’s all cop, legal and reality shows shown. When are you going to cater to the boomers!
I really loved this show and I was hoping for it to run over several seasons. After the first show I was sure that Lone Star was going to be the next big thing but I guess I couldn’t have been more wrong.
It’s a real shame though.
I thought it was the best new show of the season. I would be curious to see the other 3 episodes. I think these days it is all about what gets promoted. The other networks either promote something to death until you feel like you have already watched the first episode or stick the new show between 2 already successful shows that are similar. Maybe if they rerun it early next year and change the name of the show it would produce more favorable results!
I completely agree with all of the other comments. I thought it was the best new show of the season. I would be curious to see the other 3 episodes. It is a sad day when an original script gets cancelled and mediocre shows with no imagination or originality continue to be be produced.
I think really bad, boring shows stay on tv for years and a really clever albeit unusal show gets cancelled!!!
REALLY…for the first time, in a long time, they come up with an original idea and kill it before anyone figures it out. Man, I AM REALLY DISAPPOINTED. This is one of those shows that , I believe, had the opportunity to sneak up on an audience. In the past there have been any number of shows that aired poorly, initially, (MASH comes to mind), that went on to become iconic or, in the alternative, those that developed that coveted “cult following”, which I have later found myself to be part of more than just a few times. For sophisticated… Read more »
I thought the show was one of the best I had seen in years! I think the only thing that might have hurt it is it’s uninteresting title. I would probably never have tuned in except I came across episode #1 while flipping through the channels, and LOVED IT! I set my DVR to record all episodes, and watched the second episode, which I liked just as much as the 1st! I hate it is cancelled!
I was really excited about this series. It was the most interesting thing I had seen in sometime. I could not wait to see the next one . The plot kept me anticapateing the next scene. I would certainly love to see this series brought back. I think it just needed a little more time. More advertisement before the show started would have been good.
I loved the show!! I cant believe it was canceled. My friends and I were already hooked!!
I loved the show! maybe it was just on a bad night, I really hope they think about airing episodes 3 & 4. It was a great new show. something new, and totally different. thats what we need.
I am very upset to hear this show is cancelled! I actually enjoyed watching it and looked forward to the next episode! Fox is making a big mistake!
I really liked the show too, it was something different and had a great cast. C’mon Fox give it another chance!
Great show. Guess there was not enough blood and violence for today’s audience. Would have been helpful to show a summary of the past episode at the beginning of the second episode. I am very disappointed!
