We all saw it coming. One of the most anticipated TV shows of the new fall season, Lone Star, has been cancelled after two episodes.
Lone Star centers around a handsome conman (James Wolk) who lives a double life to swindle investors and an oil tycoon family. He starts to have regrets and struggles to balance both lives and keep everybody happy. Others in the series are Jon Voight, Adrianne Palicki, Bryce Johnson, David Keith, Eloise Mumford, and Mark Deklin.
The FOX series debuted last week to a very disappointing 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 4.1 million total viewers. Last night, despite several days of buzz and campaigning to get new viewers, the ratings fell even lower to a 1.0 rating in the demo and 3.23 million viewers. As was the case in week one, many people who started watching tuned out before the episode was over. For whatever reason, it just didn’t click.
Lone Star has been cancelled effective immediately and the three remaining unaired episodes have been shelved. There’s no word if FOX will get around to releasing the remaining episodes at some point in the future.
Last week, the cast and crew were shooting the sixth installment. Production has now been shut down and it’s unclear if that episode was completed.
Lone Star’s spot will be filled by the season three premiere of Lie to Me.
What do you think? Are you sorry to see Lone Star be cancelled? If you watched, where do you think it went wrong?
UPDATE: Subsequent reports have indicated that there are six completed episodes with four left unaired.

I googled the show cause i saw it the first week. I had to work the second time it aired and i wanted to see if that episode was posted. Very dissapointed!! I had no idea it was cancelled. I was looking forward to watching it monday night cause I would be off. This show was the most original I’ve seen in a long long time. They don’t have a clue. Maybe it just needed a better time slot. DUH…smh
What the crap. I had recorded the two episods and due to a very busy life with kids got around to watching the 2 episodes. I was hooked and couldnt figure out why the other episodes had not recorded. So frustrating. Tired of watching competition shows and reality TV. This had a great story and I wanted to see how he was going to handle these 2 wives! Bad decision FOX. How can you tell whats going to happen to a show in 2 episodes.
I’m so angry, my husband and I really enjoyed this show.. what happen to the shows they taped?
I can not believe that they would shelf this show.
I believe it needed more advertising, it is a stellar show and more people should be upset it is not getting a chance to be seen by more people
I was drawn to this show, but could not see a future. Just like the show “Nine” and several other shows that show promise on the pilot, have no future beyond the first season. I am all for creativity, but give us a story line that we can build upon year after year and not just leave it up to the cast to carry the load. Viewers deserve more than that. The actors are doing their part – give us good writers!
I’m disappointed this was cancelled. Did management ever look at the Monday night line up and ask why? There were so many new shows in that time slot, plus strong repeating shows, that this show never got a chance. If they’d changed the day and tried again, I don’t think they’d have cancelled it.
Thought the show was good! Got to see all five episodes and was anticipating the next. I watched it online so I guess those don’t count as ratings…Much better than reality tv!
PK, Where did you get to see the other episodes? Would love to see them.
That show was great, I couldn’t wait for the next episodes…put it back on!
Oh no! What happened? 4 million viewers isn’t enough to keep a show? I loved this show, it had some real honest-to-goodness conflict in it, something tangible and believable. The characters were phenomenal, acting really something fresh. The whole direction was just so tantalizing! I’m really disappointed in FOX for pulling the trigger so quickly. At least give it half a season! Let people get talking about it. I wonder if the whole “double life” theme offended people? I liked it a lot because the lead character genuinely cared for both of his conned wifes, and you could see he… Read more »
I liked the show and because of the way it started we will never really know if it would have been a success they cut it off to soon!
Everytime there is a good show on tv it is cancelled. Tired of reality programs, this was an interesting story with a good cast. I guess just dumb shows last. That does not say alot for the tv public. I am dissappointed. I think the show started to early in the season without enough publicity. To many shows started at the same time. Now what to watch???? To bad.
why is it that in todays world something has to be an instant success to be successful. we pull the trigger way to fast on things now. give up way too soon on certain things. the show was really good and deserved a chance.
I thought it was a great show…well the 2 episodes f it. I didn’t think anything was wrong with it and it kept me intrigued. I agree with the rest, just switch the day and actually give it a chance!-I bet more people will watch it.
I agree. This show wasn’t given a chance to become what it really could have been. The new Dallas. Why kill it off before it has a chance. Bring it back. And let it grow.
I liked this show very much and looked forward to seeing many more episodes.
Fox didn’t give it a chance. I was really dissapointed when it was cancelled. It had alot of my favorite actors in this series, especially David Keith.
