If you didn’t fully understand the series finale of ABC’s Lost, you’re not alone. A member of the cast didn’t really get the ending either.
Naveen Andrews, better known as Sayid Jarrah on the ABC series, admits that he was confused by the Lost conclusion. That’s not especially surprising considering he never actually watched the show other than the pilot.
He recently told Daybreak, “I was very confused [by the ending] just because I never saw the show. I saw the pilot, you know, because you have to have some knowledge of the piece that you are in, but I never saw an episode of Lost.”
“So, you know, when the end came, I had people, like Marilyn Manson of all people, trying to convince me that they had resolved it really well and it all made sense. He’s a real fan… He’s almost like a deranged fan. Almost.”
What do you think? Do you think Andrews’ choice not to watch the show impacted his performance?
I think Naveen Andrews made the right choice for his performance to not watch the show, because he should really only have knowledge of his parts, not obsessively watch every episode so he knows exactly how the script made it onto the screen every week. I’m not surprised he’s confused though, then, because you really had to watch the show to get it. I didn’t think it was confusing or disappointing at the end, though I wouldn’t have minded an ending other than, “Yeah, btw, they’re all dead and Jack never had a son. Trollololz.”
