At the start of the season, we wondered which new NBC medical drama had the best chance at survival — Mercy or Trauma. It was hard to decide but now, they’ve both been cancelled anyway.
Mercy follows the lives of three very different nurses at Mercy Hospital in Jersey City. The cast includes Taylor Schilling, Jaime Lee Kirchner, Michelle Trachtenberg, James Tupper, Diego Klattenhoff, Guillermo Diaz, James LeGros, James Van Der Beek, and Delroy Lindo.
The medical drama got off to a pretty poor start last September, attracting a 2.3 rating in the all-important 18-49 demographic and 8.25 million total viewers. Unfortunately, viewership fell even lower from there.
Despite the ratings, NBC ordered a full season of episodes, likely because the network needed the original programming. Though NBC’s Primetime Entertainment President Angela Bromstad said she liked the show creatively, she noted that the show’s ratings had to improve for it to survive.
The ratings didn’t improve. The most recent episode attracted only a 1.1 rating in the demo and 4.01 million viewers.
To no surprise, the Mercy TV show’s now been cancelled. The 22nd and final episode aired last Wednesday, May 12th. Unfortunately, it wasn’t intended to be a series finale and didn’t wrap up the show.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Mercy won’t be back for season two? What would you have liked to have seen happen?

I am sad to see that Mercy isnt coming back. I was eagerly anticipating the new season. I love this show. It replaced ER, in my opinion. If ER isnt on then I was watching Mercy. I love the cast, and story line. Miss it very much.
This is very upsetting news. Like the other commentators here, this was one of the few shows I actually enjoyed on NBC and now I have discovered it is canceled. I would have loved to watch another season, but I guess I will just have to assume what would have happened next and be careful in what shows I take an interest in on NBC which now I doubt will happen.
Viewers should give be able to she the a better ending. We watch the full season. I want to know what happen did both of guys die? I loved the show. I DVR all my show and I know a lot of people that does the same because of our busy schedules. Does this count in ratings!!!!
It really does bother me that they only base viewing amounts on people watching the show at the time that it is aired. I’m a FT RN in an ED and I’m sorry, but in the real world our jobs that matter– we don’t just work 9-5 then have time to sit down and watch TV at night. I have to DVR all of my shows because I’m working. What crap.
Vert upset…thought it was great.
So dissapointed too, I really liked the show!
I loved this show and am really sad it won’t be back. I watched it every week. Am very disappointed that they didn’t give it a proper ending. Same with Traumas too.
I am very disappointed that this show did not make. I LOVED this show, and was looking forward to another season!
I am so disappointed that Mercy and Trauma have been cancelled. I think they should have been given more time. I will think twice about watching another NBC show.
I am so mad I loved Mercy
I am extremely disappointed to see that both Mercy and Trauma have both been canceled. I watched them the whole season and, at the very least, it would be nice if the shows had a decent ending at least. This isn’t the first time this happened with one of the NBC shows I was following. It makes me rather wary and reluctant to show interest in another series with NBC in the future.
I am disappointed to see that Mercy has been cancelled. The show is very relevant for the times being that we have a lot of American soldiers who deploy and return to their civilian jobs. Myself and my family really enjoyed the show and were anticipating the new season only to find it has been cancelled. I hope the network reconsiders and brings Mercy back for another season.
I LOVED Mercy and wish it would come back!
Loved this show one of the very few shows that I made a point to watch. Loved the diversity of the staff and cannot understand why the network does not give it a chance.
I loved Mercy and the characters, I wish the network would bring it back for another chance.
i think its bull **** to cancel mercy. aspecially with-out a good closing
I am really disappointed Mercy is cancelled. One of the best shows on NBC – all the rest are silly and not worth watching. This was the next ER
