At the start of the season, we wondered which new NBC medical drama had the best chance at survival — Mercy or Trauma. It was hard to decide but now, they’ve both been cancelled anyway.
Mercy follows the lives of three very different nurses at Mercy Hospital in Jersey City. The cast includes Taylor Schilling, Jaime Lee Kirchner, Michelle Trachtenberg, James Tupper, Diego Klattenhoff, Guillermo Diaz, James LeGros, James Van Der Beek, and Delroy Lindo.
The medical drama got off to a pretty poor start last September, attracting a 2.3 rating in the all-important 18-49 demographic and 8.25 million total viewers. Unfortunately, viewership fell even lower from there.
Despite the ratings, NBC ordered a full season of episodes, likely because the network needed the original programming. Though NBC’s Primetime Entertainment President Angela Bromstad said she liked the show creatively, she noted that the show’s ratings had to improve for it to survive.
The ratings didn’t improve. The most recent episode attracted only a 1.1 rating in the demo and 4.01 million viewers.
To no surprise, the Mercy TV show’s now been cancelled. The 22nd and final episode aired last Wednesday, May 12th. Unfortunately, it wasn’t intended to be a series finale and didn’t wrap up the show.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Mercy won’t be back for season two? What would you have liked to have seen happen?

Bring Mercy back!!! I loved that show, very dissappointed it has been cancelled. I never missed an episode!!!
Just checked to see when season premier of Mercy will be and am shocked they have cancelled it. I LOVED Mercy! PLEASE BRING IT BACK!
I Loved Mercy and Trama – I can not believe they are not coming back !!!
I will truely miss Trama and Mercy. I looked forward each week to both shows. There is so much stuff on tv that needs to be canceled, but not these two shows
Please bring Mercy back…it was such a great show. PLEASE!
Please bring back Mercy, why is it when people really like a show that cancel it. Seriously NBC but you keep wipeout on. Don’t get me wrong it was funny the first 5 shows but now it is stupid and the same every week. Bring Back Mercy
My husband and I, along with my in-laws are very upset to hear that Mercy has been canceled. It was definitely one of our must see shows!
I HATE THAT THE SHOW IS CANCELLED! This is ridiculous, I actually REALLY enjoyed the show, and to leave it on a cliff hanger and not even let it wrap up from what happened on the last day…come on NBC…what the heck?!
PLEASE BRING BACK MERCY!!!
sIGNED,
Thoroughly disappointed fan
I am very disappointed that Mercy was cancelled. I didn’t like Trauma, but I loved Mercy.
I LOVED Mercy, never missed an epsiode! I also loved trauma. why do they keep canceling all these shows? I mean atleast give it another season, so that we can know what happens! I think NBC could manage to cancel some of the stupid shows that come on.
I thought it was a GREAT show and am very sad it was cancelled!!!
Unbelievable. I LOVED both Mercy and Trauma and now they’re both being cancelled?? What the hell is wrong with people!? They would prefer to watch crappy reality shows over GOOD ones like these.
I am also a health care provider. Mercy was more realistic than E. R. or any medical show on television. It was the only one I ever watched consistantly. The actors were excellent. Remember how Seinfeld strugged in it’s first year. I was afraid it wouldn’t be renewed because it was so good. A lot of dumb people watch T.V. and want reality shows. Any thing thought provoking is too much for the average person to appreciate.
they have to bring it back, it was so awesome, i have no idea how they determined the ratings but as a health care provider myself i can honestly say the show was a very realistic view of a nurses life in and out of work. Please, please please bring it back.
I would not write this about any other show…Mercy was one of the first shows that I actually enjoyed! I would not miss an episode! They need to PLEASE PLEASE bring it back!!!
