At the start of the season, we wondered which new NBC medical drama had the best chance at survival — Mercy or Trauma. It was hard to decide but now, they’ve both been cancelled anyway.
Mercy follows the lives of three very different nurses at Mercy Hospital in Jersey City. The cast includes Taylor Schilling, Jaime Lee Kirchner, Michelle Trachtenberg, James Tupper, Diego Klattenhoff, Guillermo Diaz, James LeGros, James Van Der Beek, and Delroy Lindo.
The medical drama got off to a pretty poor start last September, attracting a 2.3 rating in the all-important 18-49 demographic and 8.25 million total viewers. Unfortunately, viewership fell even lower from there.
Despite the ratings, NBC ordered a full season of episodes, likely because the network needed the original programming. Though NBC’s Primetime Entertainment President Angela Bromstad said she liked the show creatively, she noted that the show’s ratings had to improve for it to survive.
The ratings didn’t improve. The most recent episode attracted only a 1.1 rating in the demo and 4.01 million viewers.
To no surprise, the Mercy TV show’s now been cancelled. The 22nd and final episode aired last Wednesday, May 12th. Unfortunately, it wasn’t intended to be a series finale and didn’t wrap up the show.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Mercy won’t be back for season two? What would you have liked to have seen happen?

Mercy was one of my favorite shows and I’m VERY sad it has been canceled!! I’m a nurse and I LOVED that it was from a nurses point of view and I fell in love with the characters!!! So sad….: (
cant believe it!!! loved this show!!!!!!!!!!
very disappointed this show was cancelled. I was looking forward to seeing what happened next.
UGGHH I loved that show, and Im sooo disapointed that it got cancelled. They could have at least brought it back long enough to wrap it up and see if maybe their precious ratings went up then….and i just wanted to see when it was coming back on, bad call nbc.
I’m so bummed!!!!!!! My husband & I LOVED that show so much. We were really looking forward to season 2. 🙁 My heart is broken. I just wish networks would give shows a chance to get going. Sorry, one season isn’t enough.
I really think if they were even thinking that this show might be cancelled they should air a final show. I cannot believe they are leaving it like it ended in May. I had no clue it was cancelled until just now. I was a huge fan and I am very disappointed!!!
I finally found a show to replace my longing for ER and NBC cancels Mercy. This is the reason that NBC is loosing market share. They come out with a show with big potential and they don’t allow it to be discovered by the general public. That is why my family has stopped watching most of NBC’s shows.
It’s canceling shows like Mercy and Trauma that has put NBC where they are at and that is in the toilet. By far the 2 best shows that they had put on in quite awhile. Geniuses.
This past year seems to one of cancellations for all networks. You read that only 4 million families viewed Mercy; but maybe in a world (cable tv world) that with 100’s of channels to choose from maybe 4 million isn’t a bad number. This was another show that had decent writing and was interesting yet we are forced to watch reality programs that are just plain stupid to the mind. It would be nice to see some of these shows be picked up by the secondary networks lihe USA, TNT etc.

I’m VERY sad to see that Mercy has been cancelled! I LOVED that show!!! What a bummer!
This is RIDICULOUS!!!! I loved that show. How can you just end a show in the middle of a series???!!!! Poor judgement and taste. Who cares if there weren’t a lot of viewers. The ones who were watching it, like myself, happen to really enjoy it and now we have no idea how this show ends or what happens to the characters.
One of the really good shows on TV and they cancel it. I really can’t understand this at all
I am so very disappointed that Mercy is not returning! I have been waiting for this show to come back on air as well as a lot of people around me. I am very disappointed that I don’t get to see what was going to happen next. Atleast you could have showed an ending to the show instead of just discontiuning it. I think that was a bad choice, and maybe more people would have watched it this season after hearing about if from other vewers.
I am disappointed that Mercy was cancelled. I thought it had a good balance of drama, humour and reality.
I am so upset, I just got onto see when the new episode would be on and found out it was cancelled. Really NBC every time I like a show you guys cancel it ugh!!! Please bring it back!!!
