At the start of the season, we wondered which new NBC medical drama had the best chance at survival — Mercy or Trauma. It was hard to decide but now, they’ve both been cancelled anyway.
Mercy follows the lives of three very different nurses at Mercy Hospital in Jersey City. The cast includes Taylor Schilling, Jaime Lee Kirchner, Michelle Trachtenberg, James Tupper, Diego Klattenhoff, Guillermo Diaz, James LeGros, James Van Der Beek, and Delroy Lindo.
The medical drama got off to a pretty poor start last September, attracting a 2.3 rating in the all-important 18-49 demographic and 8.25 million total viewers. Unfortunately, viewership fell even lower from there.
Despite the ratings, NBC ordered a full season of episodes, likely because the network needed the original programming. Though NBC’s Primetime Entertainment President Angela Bromstad said she liked the show creatively, she noted that the show’s ratings had to improve for it to survive.
The ratings didn’t improve. The most recent episode attracted only a 1.1 rating in the demo and 4.01 million viewers.
To no surprise, the Mercy TV show’s now been cancelled. The 22nd and final episode aired last Wednesday, May 12th. Unfortunately, it wasn’t intended to be a series finale and didn’t wrap up the show.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Mercy won’t be back for season two? What would you have liked to have seen happen?

I loved Mercy and I’ve been anxiously anticipating the new season. I am very saddened!
I’m extremely teed off about it! The least they could have done was replace one of the reruns with a total finale for the show…an ending instead of leaving us hanging like that! What is it with people and good medical shows anyway? Does the possibility of it actually happening scare people?
STuipd way to end it. At least you should have wrapped it up better and have some good ending. Not just someone gets in engaged. None of the key players left with a nice ending. and i would have watch it this fall for sure. As I spen the last two week catching up on mercy on HULU
They ALWAYS cancel the good dramas. No reason to tune to NBC for drama now.
SUPER bummed! I thought Mercy was one of the best shows I had ever watched. Very disappointed that it ended the way it did. I was so excited to see what happened next.
NBC too bad u canceled it. It had potential and it could of been a contender. No one ever gives them enough time to grab th audience…….. as usual those reality shows win AGAIN!!! grrrrr.
I am so disappointed in NBC I really enjoyed Mercy and was looking forward to season 2.
I’m pissed that Mercy is canceled! This isn’t the first time NBC has done this to a good show….I am not getting into anymore series on NBC because it gets canceled without an ending! The only show I will watch on NBC is FOOTBALL!
I too was very upset to just now find out this show is not back this season. It was one of my favorites. It would have been great if another network could have picked it up. lipstick jungle was great, Trauma, and now this one.
This is one of a few shows I actually enjoyed watching, and was very disappointed to see it was canceled. I wish another broadcasting company would pick it up like USA, TNT something like they did with southland.
Was one of my favorite. Shows! Im in the medical feild and it was nice to have a show NOT about doctors for once! And I agree lame time to end the show….
I loved this show! So sad we don’t get to find out what was going to happen! Lame point to end thd whole show!
Discontinuing another great show!
I am very uspet about this. I can not believe they canceled this show, with the season finale leaving him on the edge. I am SOO mad!!!
This was my number 1 show last season across all networks, I am very very disappointed!
