At the start of the season, we wondered which new NBC medical drama had the best chance at survival — Mercy or Trauma. It was hard to decide but now, they’ve both been cancelled anyway.
Mercy follows the lives of three very different nurses at Mercy Hospital in Jersey City. The cast includes Taylor Schilling, Jaime Lee Kirchner, Michelle Trachtenberg, James Tupper, Diego Klattenhoff, Guillermo Diaz, James LeGros, James Van Der Beek, and Delroy Lindo.
The medical drama got off to a pretty poor start last September, attracting a 2.3 rating in the all-important 18-49 demographic and 8.25 million total viewers. Unfortunately, viewership fell even lower from there.
Despite the ratings, NBC ordered a full season of episodes, likely because the network needed the original programming. Though NBC’s Primetime Entertainment President Angela Bromstad said she liked the show creatively, she noted that the show’s ratings had to improve for it to survive.
The ratings didn’t improve. The most recent episode attracted only a 1.1 rating in the demo and 4.01 million viewers.
To no surprise, the Mercy TV show’s now been cancelled. The 22nd and final episode aired last Wednesday, May 12th. Unfortunately, it wasn’t intended to be a series finale and didn’t wrap up the show.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Mercy won’t be back for season two? What would you have liked to have seen happen?

That sucks I was just getting into it when the season was over they can end the show the way they did that really sucks. Man I was looking forward to next season. I thought it was a great show. well sorry they had great people in that show good to see james van der beck back in show biz I loved him in dawson creek that why I started watching this show.
What would have become of Veronica and her blokes, I wonder.
Very sad this show isn’t coming back 🙁 Even though it was most often quite ridiculous, and I generally don’t like TV, there was something somewhat charming, if not engrossing about this show, and I was definitely looking forward to the second season, boo hoo.
It does seem that if you don’t have everyone sleeping with everyone else or things blowing up or guns going off it gets cancelled. I was a huge fan of this show. I love the fact they showed the “new RN” trying to find her place like all us nurses had to. I just realized this show was cancelled and it sucks. I may just delete NBC from my tv (if I could) they give nothing a chance. Every time I get interested in a show they cancel it. Agravating!
Like everyone else I had no idea one of my favorite shows is cancelled! My husband and I watched it together every week! We recorded it on dvr. I love Mercy and from the looks of it …alot of people did! There is alot of garbage on anymore and we find something we enjoy and then its cancelled! Not happy at all!
As a physician, I enjoyed this show thoroughly. Sad to see it cancelled.
Please bring Mercy back. All the shows I have looked forward to all summer are gone. Why is that? And why do you keep all the stupid ones?
I have been looking forward all summer for my favorite shows to return this fall and Mercy was at the top of that list! I was double checking my DVR settings tonight and I couldn’t find it anywhere which is how I figured out it was canceled. I am so disappointed- I enjoyed the show so much- I thought the characters were funny and the story lines were well written- better than a lot of dramas on TV now. So sad to see such a good show go so quick.
I love the show. I thought the finale was great and couldn’t wait for the new season. Big mistake.
I’m really bummed….this was one of my favorite shows. And I’m DYING to know what happened?! Did they shoot any other shows? Any storylines we can read?
This was a little slice of heaven for me after work, since I am a nurse as well. Loved this show. Watched it every week! Very upset that it was canceled! It was heartfelt, had humor, it was intriguing, and had depth with the underlying Iraq/Military base. Very sad to see this go! Thanks NBC for putting an ax on the ONLY show I watch(ed) on your network!
BIG MISTAKE CANCELING THIS SHOW. THIS SHOW SHOWED CHARECTER, DEPTH , INTRIGUE, AND A GOAL WITH EACH STORYLINE. WHAT A WASTE TO
HAVE CANCELED IT.
I loved Mercy!!!! I didn’t expect to, but it was actually really funny and heartfelt. I’m sad that it was cancelled.
Had no idea Mercy was canceled; should have made sense with James Tupper moving on to another show. In agreement with everyone else, sad to see the show go. Was an inspiration to me working as a nurse.
Bring Mercy back
