At the start of the season, we wondered which new NBC medical drama had the best chance at survival — Mercy or Trauma. It was hard to decide but now, they’ve both been cancelled anyway.
Mercy follows the lives of three very different nurses at Mercy Hospital in Jersey City. The cast includes Taylor Schilling, Jaime Lee Kirchner, Michelle Trachtenberg, James Tupper, Diego Klattenhoff, Guillermo Diaz, James LeGros, James Van Der Beek, and Delroy Lindo.
The medical drama got off to a pretty poor start last September, attracting a 2.3 rating in the all-important 18-49 demographic and 8.25 million total viewers. Unfortunately, viewership fell even lower from there.
Despite the ratings, NBC ordered a full season of episodes, likely because the network needed the original programming. Though NBC’s Primetime Entertainment President Angela Bromstad said she liked the show creatively, she noted that the show’s ratings had to improve for it to survive.
The ratings didn’t improve. The most recent episode attracted only a 1.1 rating in the demo and 4.01 million viewers.
To no surprise, the Mercy TV show’s now been cancelled. The 22nd and final episode aired last Wednesday, May 12th. Unfortunately, it wasn’t intended to be a series finale and didn’t wrap up the show.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Mercy won’t be back for season two? What would you have liked to have seen happen?

I am really sorry to see that mercy is gone from tv. I was really looking forward to watching the show this year. I think that the actors and actresses are great, and there were great story lines …. Please, please bring mercy back.

ah. more advertising this show and i swear people will watch it n love it.

NBC.. why do you take cool shows away from the people? :C
soooooo.. i was really mad when i found out mercy was cancelled i was waiting to see what would happen next! i loved the show and the characters, got me thinking about becoming a nurse loll i bet it would have gotten more takers if people new it existed. no one that i asked, has even heard of it. :/
very disappointed.
please bring back mercy!! at least give it a proper ending and not a cliffhanger i’ll be thinking about for years to come! please NBC be smart and bring it back!
I loved Mercy, please bring it back. I know I’m not alone. This is a true shame. One of the best on TV. I always watched this show no matter what else was going on. I liked the story line. It was like real life.
Dear NBC,
Please bring back Mercy. It was one of the best medical dramas on tv and the finale was one of the best finales ever!! not everyone is a huge reality tv fan some of us enjoy series’ and all of the acting was wonderful! Fans who were missing ER enjoyed Mercy. Please at least finish out the series, so we can conclude your awesome finale!
Thank you,
Erin McCool
A Mercy Fan
I thought it was a good show with real life plots. The story lines addressed issues of adults, working, and relationships. I think it was put on a bad time and day. The cast was good and did their roles well. The woman seemed independent and resembled what woman are like today. The men could have played a stronger role to draw more attention from a male audience. However, the men were all handsome, well spoken, and played their parts good.
I loved this show, and am terribly disappointed to find that it was cancelled. Bad enough that they cancel it, but they leave it with it’s followers sitting on the edge of their seats!!!!! Mercy was one of the few shows that I watched live instead of DVR’d, as I wanted to see it right away. I am not even remotely interested in any of the new shows that are on the roster. What a shame.
What’s the matter NBC, Advertisers wont pay 30,000 per minute during a low ratings TV show. BOO HOO
OOPS, cant let NBC’s stocks DROP to much.
Yeah AMERICA is not in a Recession. SURE
How about we get of our GREEDY asses.
And do the last episode. Cant hurt that bad.
Bunch of JIVE TURKEYS.
It’s one of the better new shows. The lead nurse is a fantastic actress. You blew it NBC!
I really hope the ABC, CBS, TNT or any other channel picks this show up, just like TNT did with Southland which had really good rating on TNT and not on CBS.
I love Mercy, I don’t know why they cancel this show. This was one of best shows. ..
I too am VERY disapointed in NBC for taking off Mercy…This was one of the best shows last season! I don’t get it…why all this reality TV? I’m sick of it. I have not watched a “hospital” type show in years, but this one really stuck out. It was really great.
