At the start of the season, we wondered which new NBC medical drama had the best chance at survival — Mercy or Trauma. It was hard to decide but now, they’ve both been cancelled anyway.
Mercy follows the lives of three very different nurses at Mercy Hospital in Jersey City. The cast includes Taylor Schilling, Jaime Lee Kirchner, Michelle Trachtenberg, James Tupper, Diego Klattenhoff, Guillermo Diaz, James LeGros, James Van Der Beek, and Delroy Lindo.
The medical drama got off to a pretty poor start last September, attracting a 2.3 rating in the all-important 18-49 demographic and 8.25 million total viewers. Unfortunately, viewership fell even lower from there.
Despite the ratings, NBC ordered a full season of episodes, likely because the network needed the original programming. Though NBC’s Primetime Entertainment President Angela Bromstad said she liked the show creatively, she noted that the show’s ratings had to improve for it to survive.
The ratings didn’t improve. The most recent episode attracted only a 1.1 rating in the demo and 4.01 million viewers.
To no surprise, the Mercy TV show’s now been cancelled. The 22nd and final episode aired last Wednesday, May 12th. Unfortunately, it wasn’t intended to be a series finale and didn’t wrap up the show.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Mercy won’t be back for season two? What would you have liked to have seen happen?

well this is the worse news i have had all week, thanks NBC for ruining my fall TV line up!
My husband and I are very disappointed to that here it has been canceled. It was one of our favorite shows to sit down and watch as a family. I hope they reconsider to bring it back.
Bring it back. Well acted, great stories. Give it another chance. I, too, have waited all summer. At least make it a mid-season replacement. Ratings shares mean nothing to me. I just want good TV. Cable has the right idea, get with the ‘program!’ Bring us better TV.
BOOOOO!!! Me and my daughter’s really like this show!!!
SO UPSET! I LOVE THIS SHOW AND TRAUMA TOO! Some other station has GOT to pick these shows up! If we were going to miss one of these shows we always made sure to DVR it. I am SO COMPLETELY BUMMED that both Trauma and Mercy are cancelled!! I agree with some other folks here, how do you determine your ratings? I hate Law-and -Order yet you keep it on the air. Finally 2 good shows and you cancel them just like you cancelled Friday Night Lights. What gives?
Both Mercy and Trauma were great shows. They should be brought back.
Loved this show!! Can’t believe it’s been cancelled!! I watch 4 shows a week on TV and this was one of them. So much crap on TV and the good shows get cancelled!! Irratated!!
I am so sad that there is no more “Mercy”. I watched every single episode and would like to see it back on the air!! Is this still possible!! Come on NBC or any other channel! It was a great show…
Are you kidding me?! “Mercy” too?! I just read that “Trauma” was cancelled! I might have to cancel NBC.
We have been waiting for the new season of Mercy and we are so disappointed to learn that it has been cancelled. Hope they will reconsider, even at this late date. It was a great show!
I really like this show. I hardly even watch NBC anymore. They only show Law and Order’s. Finally some thing new and interesting and you cancel it? How do you come up with your ratings?
So sad that Mercy was cancelled. I love mercy.
I loved that show! I need an end now !! The last episode was a horrible way to end it! Please bring it back on !!
This is terrible news, both Mercy and Trauma were good shows, they helped every day nurses get stress relief and also hope for sad love life…………….is there anything we can do to get them back!!!
Very disappointed to hear Mercy has been cancelled, have been waiting all summer for the new season! Great acting by all of the cast, come on fox or cw, don’t waste these talented actors.
