At the start of the season, we wondered which new NBC medical drama had the best chance at survival — Mercy or Trauma. It was hard to decide but now, they’ve both been cancelled anyway.
Mercy follows the lives of three very different nurses at Mercy Hospital in Jersey City. The cast includes Taylor Schilling, Jaime Lee Kirchner, Michelle Trachtenberg, James Tupper, Diego Klattenhoff, Guillermo Diaz, James LeGros, James Van Der Beek, and Delroy Lindo.
The medical drama got off to a pretty poor start last September, attracting a 2.3 rating in the all-important 18-49 demographic and 8.25 million total viewers. Unfortunately, viewership fell even lower from there.
Despite the ratings, NBC ordered a full season of episodes, likely because the network needed the original programming. Though NBC’s Primetime Entertainment President Angela Bromstad said she liked the show creatively, she noted that the show’s ratings had to improve for it to survive.
The ratings didn’t improve. The most recent episode attracted only a 1.1 rating in the demo and 4.01 million viewers.
To no surprise, the Mercy TV show’s now been cancelled. The 22nd and final episode aired last Wednesday, May 12th. Unfortunately, it wasn’t intended to be a series finale and didn’t wrap up the show.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Mercy won’t be back for season two? What would you have liked to have seen happen?

Wednesday night just isn’t the same. Really liked it and am so dissappointed.
I really enjoyed Mercy and was really looking forward to what was going to happen next!!! I couldnt catch it in time on tv but always watched online. Truely disappointed 🙁
Ok so I am extremely peeved that Mercy has been cancelled! I had been looking for the premiere date and finally find ONLINE that it was cancelled! NBC screwed up bigtime! I never missed an episode!
PLease bring Mercy back!!!! Love love love that show!!!
I’m so upset, that was my fav show too!!!! I hv been searching for a season start day n never could find it! We want MERCY BACK!!!!!!!!!!! please…… What can we do to get it back on air???
I am so disappointed they cancelled Mercy. My whole family loved this show and several of my friends loved it too. We had all been waiting for it to come back and just found out it was cancelled. Please bring it back, it was a great medical and dramatic show with great characters.
Just found out and I am extremely upset!! It was the one night I got to sit down and enjoy tv by myself. I lived that show!!
I am very upset that Mercy was cancelled. it was my favorite show
Bring Mercy back–it was a great tv show with great storylines for all the characters!!! Finally a worthy show about strong women living true, everyday lives, and it gets canned while junk, reality shows about weak women remain on tv–go figure!!! Mercy was a show that finally made me interested in the lives of nurses and the different struggles they encounter daily. All the nurses on the show are the type I would like to have at my bedside (even the gay male who’s storyline was gaining). The male doctors and the female doctor were great as well. What a… Read more »
I am speechless…I thought Mercy was one of the best shows on tv in a long time. I will truly miss it!
I was very upset to learn MERCY would not be returning for a season 2. I was so looking forward to watching it and did not hear when it would be on again and found out via the internet it was cancelled. Bring back MERCY…
I agree with Marisa, I loved Mercy and won’t take the risk of watching anything on that network again.
I am so mad there wont be a season 2 of mercy!
I am extremely disappointed to hear that mercy and trauma have been cancelled! I’ve been waiting all summer to see these shows. I don’t understand how you can have such great shows and then go and cancel them, especially when you leave them hanging the way you did (especially mercy!….I’ve been so anxious to find out what happens and now I’ll never know). After this experience I will probably never tune in to a show on this network considering I have been disappointed not once but twice!….I wouldn’t take the risk of liking another show on this network only for… Read more »
Stupid NBC. Mercy was a great show.
I’m extremely upset that Mercy won’t be back for a sesason two. You always get interested
in a show then they decided to pull if off the air. Also that Truama might not be back for
season two. They are both really good shows and I hope that NBC decides to air Season Two.
