At the start of the season, we wondered which new NBC medical drama had the best chance at survival — Mercy or Trauma. It was hard to decide but now, they’ve both been cancelled anyway.
Mercy follows the lives of three very different nurses at Mercy Hospital in Jersey City. The cast includes Taylor Schilling, Jaime Lee Kirchner, Michelle Trachtenberg, James Tupper, Diego Klattenhoff, Guillermo Diaz, James LeGros, James Van Der Beek, and Delroy Lindo.
The medical drama got off to a pretty poor start last September, attracting a 2.3 rating in the all-important 18-49 demographic and 8.25 million total viewers. Unfortunately, viewership fell even lower from there.
Despite the ratings, NBC ordered a full season of episodes, likely because the network needed the original programming. Though NBC’s Primetime Entertainment President Angela Bromstad said she liked the show creatively, she noted that the show’s ratings had to improve for it to survive.
The ratings didn’t improve. The most recent episode attracted only a 1.1 rating in the demo and 4.01 million viewers.
To no surprise, the Mercy TV show’s now been cancelled. The 22nd and final episode aired last Wednesday, May 12th. Unfortunately, it wasn’t intended to be a series finale and didn’t wrap up the show.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Mercy won’t be back for season two? What would you have liked to have seen happen?

I’m so upset! My husband and I loved the show!
I really loved Mercy and enjoyed watching it thoroughly. I am very disappointed to hear that there will be no season 2!
Really? Mercy canceled? This sucks! You should have canceled Jay Leno!
I’m truly disappointed that Mercy has been cancled, I really liked this show. The last show shown left us hanging, as if it was coming back. Bring Mercy back please.
I loved Mercy and I wish that they would bring it back. I love Medical shows and why can’t they leave this one alone.
I am really bummed! They should have wrapped it up better if they knew the show was going to end!
WHAT!!! This is just crazy. Tons of good shows from last year got canceled. The old geezers running the major networks need to retire. Go play golf or something. Actually TV should soon become irrelevant. All these shows need to be published on HULU or similar internet sites. This is the only way you can accurately judge the popularity of the shows.
Really! I get so frustrated when I find a really GREAT Show and they Cancel it! I Love Mercy! and am terribly sad to see that there will be no season 2. Frankly it is very upsetting that shows like intervention and hoarders stay, and good drama shows get cancelled all the time! Says alot about the way people think. Kind of disturbing!
Im so sad to hear there is no more Mercy! I loved that show and felt I could relate as an Army wife going through my own fair share of things with my husband… So sad to see it go. I hope they have a change of heart and bring it back…..
My wife and I are devastated that Mercy has been cancelled. We really enjoy the medical shows and loved that this show was based around independent women and their careers!!! We were beginning to like it more than our favourite show, Grey’s Anatomy! It is so sad to know that this show will no longer be a part of our Wednesday evening!
I’m very upset that the show was cancelled I love mercy. It made me think about becoming an rn I actually filled out form to start school. If it was going to get cancelled they could have at least warped it up to let us know what happened.
I enjoyed Mercy and feel badly that there is no season 2. I thought the show was well casted and the plots were good. Sorry to see it go.
Please bring this show back!. I thoroughly enjoyed this show and the actors. It was a really good show.
My wife and I really enjoyed mercy. We thought it was a great show. Hate to see it end but would have atleast liked to see how everything turned out instead of an incomplete ending. We thought that part was pretty sloppy of NBC.
I really enjoyed this show. I’m was looking forward to season 2, finally a show that was about women that were passionate and fun. This is a real disappointment.
