At the start of the season, we wondered which new NBC medical drama had the best chance at survival — Mercy or Trauma. It was hard to decide but now, they’ve both been cancelled anyway.
Mercy follows the lives of three very different nurses at Mercy Hospital in Jersey City. The cast includes Taylor Schilling, Jaime Lee Kirchner, Michelle Trachtenberg, James Tupper, Diego Klattenhoff, Guillermo Diaz, James LeGros, James Van Der Beek, and Delroy Lindo.
The medical drama got off to a pretty poor start last September, attracting a 2.3 rating in the all-important 18-49 demographic and 8.25 million total viewers. Unfortunately, viewership fell even lower from there.
Despite the ratings, NBC ordered a full season of episodes, likely because the network needed the original programming. Though NBC’s Primetime Entertainment President Angela Bromstad said she liked the show creatively, she noted that the show’s ratings had to improve for it to survive.
The ratings didn’t improve. The most recent episode attracted only a 1.1 rating in the demo and 4.01 million viewers.
To no surprise, the Mercy TV show’s now been cancelled. The 22nd and final episode aired last Wednesday, May 12th. Unfortunately, it wasn’t intended to be a series finale and didn’t wrap up the show.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Mercy won’t be back for season two? What would you have liked to have seen happen?

Im very upset that both shows were cancelled. I looked forward to them every week and always made sure I was home to watch them 🙁
Oh NO! What a disappointment. One of my all time favorite shows. I cannot stand the reality shows and this was something to look forward to. I was watching Castle on hulu and saw the girl who played Chloe and thought it was strange to see her on another show so I googled Mercy and just saw that it has been canceled. Do the viewers on hulu count in the ratings game? Maybe I should have watched it on TV.
I loved this show, I believe it is cancelled, please bring it back!
I am sooo sad. I loved Mercy! I have been waiting and waiting for it to start. Then I googled it today and found out it was cancelled….BOOOOOOOO!!
I am so upset this show was cancelled grrrrrrr Idiots
Loved this show. I was waiting for it to come back and finally googled to find out about mercy and trauma. Watched both shows and thought they were both really good tv. I would love to see them both come back.
I’m so sorry to hear that Mercy was cancelled. As a former Army Medic stationed in Iraq, I really identified with Veronica. Some of the struggle she went through upon returning are things that I went through when I returned. It suprirses me that the show was cancelled while crap shows are still on.
I really liked this show. It was interesting, funny, and clean. I am so sick and tired of dumb reality shows, dancing stars, bachelorettes, Repomen and violence. I hope NBC will bring this back. It was worth watching and I was looking forward to season 2.
I cant believe that they cancelled mercy!!! 🙁 I loved that show!
I’m really upset that they cancelled Mercy. What a great spin on a doctor drama. ER with comedy. I loved this show.
What are the producers thinking? Mercy was an entertaining show and it gave us something decent to watch. When previews are misleading, the wrong people will watch a show and be disappointed, whereas the right people won’t even give it a chance.
Can not believe what I just read!!!!!! Mercy cancelled???? That is just crazy!I have been waiting all summer. What were they thinking????? Oh they weren’t. Very disappointed.
i have waited all summer also for this show to come back on. it wasn’t until my husband asked me if i had seen anything about when it would be on that i decided to google it. go figure… the good shows never last!
i loved the show and identified with the characters and is sad to see it gone
I wish that they would bring this back!! There is enough trash TV on NBC. This show was actually good! Come on!! Bring Mercy back!!!!!!!!!!
Very upset!
I am so upset that Mercy is cancelled. I just heard from some friends it was and didnt believe until I googled it myself. The show was excellent! How horrible to cancel a good show when all that is left in the tv world is reality shows! Very disappointed NBC.
