At the start of the season, we wondered which new NBC medical drama had the best chance at survival — Mercy or Trauma. It was hard to decide but now, they’ve both been cancelled anyway.
Mercy follows the lives of three very different nurses at Mercy Hospital in Jersey City. The cast includes Taylor Schilling, Jaime Lee Kirchner, Michelle Trachtenberg, James Tupper, Diego Klattenhoff, Guillermo Diaz, James LeGros, James Van Der Beek, and Delroy Lindo.
The medical drama got off to a pretty poor start last September, attracting a 2.3 rating in the all-important 18-49 demographic and 8.25 million total viewers. Unfortunately, viewership fell even lower from there.
Despite the ratings, NBC ordered a full season of episodes, likely because the network needed the original programming. Though NBC’s Primetime Entertainment President Angela Bromstad said she liked the show creatively, she noted that the show’s ratings had to improve for it to survive.
The ratings didn’t improve. The most recent episode attracted only a 1.1 rating in the demo and 4.01 million viewers.
To no surprise, the Mercy TV show’s now been cancelled. The 22nd and final episode aired last Wednesday, May 12th. Unfortunately, it wasn’t intended to be a series finale and didn’t wrap up the show.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Mercy won’t be back for season two? What would you have liked to have seen happen?

I am so upset that this show was canceled…I was a faithful viewer. The season finale was awesome and I couldn’t wait for the new season to begin. Now we are stuck with all this reality crap to watch (whick I don’t watch cause its all ridiculous). I have yet to find any of the new shows that are worth watching. PLEASE bring Mercy back!!!!!!
I WANT MORE MERCY!!!!! SEASON 2 IS A MUST! PLEASE LET IT AIR. THANK YOU
I am so mad that this show was cancled! i am going into ICU nursing and this show was my favorite thing to watch. i just found out that its not going to be continued and am sooo upset i wanna know what happens with these nurses
This was a great show. I don’t see how they can just cancel it. It had believable charachters in real life situations that the general audience could relate too. PLEASE BRING IT BACK!!!!!!!
I am so disappointed! Its one of the very few shows I made sure to watch weekly.
I wrote to NBC on there website, everyone should do the same. I mean its a great show
Please bring Mercy back. Unfortunately I didnt know about the show until it was over, i watched one season on netflix and couldn’t walk away from the screen. Great Show!
I am so disappointed…I loved this show my husband and i watched this show every week together. There is something wrong with this world. They will keep a bunch of garbage on tv. but won’t keep a good show like Mercy…Thats messed up..
I’m really disappointed that Season two didn’t happen. I kept waiting to see the season start and then one day the cute dr. showed up on Greys Anatomy, that was the clencher that I’ll never know what will happen and the poor girl will just shrivel up in her hot bath.
I am from france, and Ia m reallyd esapointed to know that it will not have a season 2….
MY HUSBAND AND I LOVE THIS SHOW. IT WAS GREAT. THEY ALL WERE FUNNY AND THE WRITERS DID A GREAT JOB AT WRITING THE SCRIPT. JUST FOUND OUT ABOUT THIS IN LAST FEW MINUTES. I HAVE BEEN WONDERING WHY IT HASNT BEEN ON YET AND OCTOBER IS ALMOST OVER. SO MUCH OF THE STORY WAS LEFT UNSAID. I WONDER WHY THE RATINGS WERE DOWN? WHAT WAS ON THAT THE SHOW DIDNT SURVIVE? ONLY THING I CAN THINK ABOUT IS AMERICAN IDOL. I KNOW THAT SHOW IS BIG AND WITH SIMON LEAVING IT WAS BIGGER. I WISH WE COULD MAKE IT… Read more »
I work nights so I am not home to watch most nigh time shows so I have recently caught it on Netflix. I have watched about half of the season and I would have loved for there to be a second season of this show. As it happens, I seem to always miss the chance to promote the shows that I would like to see.
This was the only new show that I really liked and made sure to never miss it. As usual they take off the good ones and leave the crap!
I am so disappointed this wonderful show got cancelled. The characters were interesting and complex and there was real dialog. I loved the conflicts, humor and romance and there was so much more to tell. This show was FAR from over—PLEASE bring it back!! The writers and actors of this show were superb!!!!
The fact that Mercy was cancelled is just one more example of what is wrong with this world. It was a quality show with good acting in a world where ridiculous, uneducated “reality tv” rules the screen. Mercy was an amazing show!
