At the start of the season, we wondered which new NBC medical drama had the best chance at survival — Mercy or Trauma. It was hard to decide but now, they’ve both been cancelled anyway.
Mercy follows the lives of three very different nurses at Mercy Hospital in Jersey City. The cast includes Taylor Schilling, Jaime Lee Kirchner, Michelle Trachtenberg, James Tupper, Diego Klattenhoff, Guillermo Diaz, James LeGros, James Van Der Beek, and Delroy Lindo.
The medical drama got off to a pretty poor start last September, attracting a 2.3 rating in the all-important 18-49 demographic and 8.25 million total viewers. Unfortunately, viewership fell even lower from there.
Despite the ratings, NBC ordered a full season of episodes, likely because the network needed the original programming. Though NBC’s Primetime Entertainment President Angela Bromstad said she liked the show creatively, she noted that the show’s ratings had to improve for it to survive.
The ratings didn’t improve. The most recent episode attracted only a 1.1 rating in the demo and 4.01 million viewers.
To no surprise, the Mercy TV show’s now been cancelled. The 22nd and final episode aired last Wednesday, May 12th. Unfortunately, it wasn’t intended to be a series finale and didn’t wrap up the show.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Mercy won’t be back for season two? What would you have liked to have seen happen?

I seem to always get hooked on the tv shows that get cancelled. GRRRRR! I watched the entire first season of Mercy on Netflix in one week and obviously loved it! The problem I have is that I am either to busy during the week to watch the new shows or they are on too late, so I end up watching them online or on Netflix. I am very disappointed that this show, along with several others in the last 2 years has been cancelled. Please bring it back!
Recently watched the whole season on Netflix, LOVE IT! I want more! Wish they would bring it back!
I love the show & thought it was probably the best I had seen in a long time. I was very sad to see it end a would hope that NBC would consider a second season.
totally disappointed!!! not even right, was looking so forward to another season. I don’t think it’s right to leave the viewers hanging!!!!!!…..
I am very disappointed in this netwoork mercy was amazing we NEED to know what happens you cannot leave it like this it’s crazy we want season 2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YOU SHOULD HAVE DEF GAVE IT A CHACE IT IS AWESOME!!
I’m a nurse and I loved This show!! I had no idea they cancelled the series….another station should pick it up!
I was heart broken when one of my favorite shows went off the air, but at least they wrapped it up and very well I might add. I have been searching for some sort of entertainment that is wonderful, and real. Not these predictable shows that rate for morons and people with no life or original thought in their brains. How many stupid reality tv shows really need to exist? Jersey shore? is that the show, well from what i hear I would see those people fed to rabid animals before I subject myself to that level of stupidity and… Read more »
My husband and I want it back!
Bring MERCY back for a season 2…That show was awesome!!! And I don’t normally fall for hospital, nurse shows! I loved it! Man why do all the good shows get cancelled!
I just finished season 1 on Netflix and I too couldn’t believe this show had been cancelled. Has there ever been a lead character on TV like Veronica Callahan? What an amazing cast, with the most compelling writing! Everyone is just absolutely perfect and completely believable. I am really going to miss this show and do wish there could of been some closure for all us viewers. It’s interesting to see all these comments on a show that was cancelled in May, in November! I was moved seeing a lot of people having the same experience as me this last… Read more »
I just finished watching Mercy on Netflix. It was mesmerizing. I just wish that if NBC knew that they weren’t renewing the series, they would have written a series finale. The show was good. It deserved a decent ending. Coupled with what MSNBC is doing to Keith Olbermann, I am very disappointed with this network.
Loved that show; didn’t miss it even once. It should have been given a chance. Sexy, smart and fun. Damn.
some people didnt know but I bet you if they have stayed on air the rates would have went up and more and more audience would have been watching it . come on NBC puyt it back ,put it back ,put it back .
How could they do such a thing some people was learning from that show . but they can leave scrubs on air come on now. BRING IT BACK NOW!!!
I recently fell in love with Mercy (I’m late on the band wagon, I know) but after watching the entire season in 2 days on Netflix, I want more — I want to know what happens… it was left at such a point that you need to know! Bring it back — for the spring!!
Kaity, where you at my house this weekend? Seriously, I just did the exact same thing, ie. the Mercy marathon on Netflix. I had seen part of the first episode a while back, but at the time it didn’t really grab my attention. But after my marathon this weekend, I was hoping to add the show to my new favorites, I mean it is totally hilarious and the characters really have depth. I can’t believe they are gonna cancel it, are they crazy. Its just like what happened with Pushing Daisies, excellent show and reviews, but not enough initial viewers.… Read more »
