At the start of the season, we wondered which new NBC medical drama had the best chance at survival — Mercy or Trauma. It was hard to decide but now, they’ve both been cancelled anyway.
Mercy follows the lives of three very different nurses at Mercy Hospital in Jersey City. The cast includes Taylor Schilling, Jaime Lee Kirchner, Michelle Trachtenberg, James Tupper, Diego Klattenhoff, Guillermo Diaz, James LeGros, James Van Der Beek, and Delroy Lindo.
The medical drama got off to a pretty poor start last September, attracting a 2.3 rating in the all-important 18-49 demographic and 8.25 million total viewers. Unfortunately, viewership fell even lower from there.
Despite the ratings, NBC ordered a full season of episodes, likely because the network needed the original programming. Though NBC’s Primetime Entertainment President Angela Bromstad said she liked the show creatively, she noted that the show’s ratings had to improve for it to survive.
The ratings didn’t improve. The most recent episode attracted only a 1.1 rating in the demo and 4.01 million viewers.
To no surprise, the Mercy TV show’s now been cancelled. The 22nd and final episode aired last Wednesday, May 12th. Unfortunately, it wasn’t intended to be a series finale and didn’t wrap up the show.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Mercy won’t be back for season two? What would you have liked to have seen happen?

I didn’t start watching until the middle f the eason and I had to DVR the show…but I loved it ….was waiting for the new serie then looked it up to find out when….Only to find this!! There are so few good eries only and you just cancelled one of ur favorite ones…this channel…network sucks!!!
Grrrrr!! I loved this show! Can’t believe they cancelled it and totally left me hangin’!!! October Road cancelled and now this! They couldn’t give it more than 1 season???
wow…yeah…that is completely crushing. I was hoping there was only one season on netflix because it might be in its second season. I was trying to find out how to watch the second season on tv when i found this out. How horrible!! And if you think your going to cancel a show…don’t end it so dramatically and leave us all in la la land. Geez…this is why I have netflix to begin with…TV networks are horrible!
I don’t want to make this board sound like a broken record, but I, also, just finished watching Mercy through Netflix. I was hooked from the first episode and really fell for all of the characters. I know it was sort-of over the top sometimes, but it was honest and I felt like it portrayed real life in a way that doesn’t usually get seen on television. It makes me genuinely sad that I will not be able to watch Veronica’s life unfold. I don’t watch many shows, but I sure liked this one.
Look what the hell is going on here I just seen this on netflixs and now u tell me its gone why I am a big HOUSE fan love it it was the only med. Show I liked I seen the other on showtime nurse Jackie tats ok but this show was f.ing great I did not feel like it was some actress on t.v. look the low ratings were from the t.v. Chanel it was on if fox picked it up than bome it takes oft it was a great show but it was on the wrong network look… Read more »
I, like a few other people on here, just finished watching the first season on Netflix. I think NBC is out of their MINDS. This show was up in my top three of favorite shows. I honestly can’t get enough. PLEASE bring this show back. I even got my boyfriend and a few of my friends addicted. Finding out that this show has been canceled definitely ruined my week.
i just finished watching mercy on netflix. the people who own these networks need to realize that they way people view these tv shows have changed. i don’t even have cable, i watch things through netflix and online. i loved mercy, it was dramatic and funny and i would have loved to see everything unfold. its too bad that networks don’t give these shows enough time to build a fan base. i don’t live my life in front of the tv. even if i love a show i don’t watch it every week because i have a life. they should… Read more »
First, Friday Night Lights and now Mercy. Does anybody at NBC have any sense of quality programming? The best shows need time to develop their characters and attract an audience.
Bring this one back !!!!!
I loved Mercy!!!! I was a huge ER fanatic and was crushed when it went off. It took me a while to start watching Mercy b/c of my scheduling but I was so hooked I watched it ALL over on netflix! I find that there are more stupid reality shows then actual dramas and TV shows. The last episode was ao far from the end……Please bring it back!
I feel cheated!!!! Please finish the series for those viewers that did watch, if you care about the audience that did enjoy the show. Sorry the ratings weren’t up to the standards. Please respect the viewers who Did tune in to your network and finish the story line.
I, like Steve, just finished watching the entire season of Mercy on Netflix and absolutely loved it. The characters were strong, independent and very likeable. The show, and storylines within, seemed to respect the audience’s intelligence. I would love to see this show brought back on one of the cable networks like F/X where it would find a home and a place to grow to it’s potential.
I am pissed off that you all have cancelled my favorite show… I am hurt and crying I HAT NBC you guys suck and i will never watch your network again because you all have no idea what good t.v is.. I HATE YOU you all have ruined my life.. and i will never forgive you..
I can not believe that Mercy was cancelled. It was the best medical show on TV next to Grey’s An. Private Practice is the one that should have been cancelled. Lots of people I know really liked the show. PLEASE bring it back…
I just watched the whole first season on Netflix and loved the show. I am a 59 year old retired male machinist. I very much liked how the show was from the point of view of the four nurses, three women and a gay man, with the three women as the leads of the show. They were brilliant. I thought the mix of characters and casting was consistently excellent. Every episode had multiple intriguing story lines. I especially enjoyed that the characters normally acted in highly ethical and compassionate ways while still making many human mistakes and moments of bad… Read more »
Are you kidding me? They cancelled this show? WTF? Don’t tell me, they’ll replace it with skating with the stars………something I DEFINATELY WON’T WATCH! In fact, I’m really getting burned out on dancing with the stars! Great job NBC. You’ve just about cancelled everything I watch! In fact I’m watching more and more satalite channels these day because the big networks cancel good shows and replace them with stupid stuff!
you are 100% correct!!!!!!!!!!!! this show was great and it was only the first season
