Uma Thurman will recur as Lenny Cohen, “the ultimate fixer” in the scripted My So Called Wife TV show, coming to Bravo next year. Thurman’s other TV series work includes The Slap, which ended last year after one season on NBC. She also recurred as Rebecca Duvall in the first season of Smash, which was cancelled by NBC after two seasons, in 2013.
My So Called Wife (working title) stars Inbar Lavi as Maddie, whom Bravo says is, “…a persona shifting con-artist who is as beautiful as she is dangerous, which makes her unsuspecting victims even more tormented when they realize they have been used and robbed of everything… including their hearts.” The cast also includes Rob Heaps, Parker Young, and Stephen Bishop. Update 11/29/2016: My So Called Wife has been renamed Imposters. It will premiere February 7th.
Describing Thurman’s newest TV role, Bravo says, “When the reclusive ring-leader of a group of con artists needs to keep his employees in line, eliminate an enemy, or whip up a world class omelette, there is only one person for the job – the lethal, articulate and mysterious Lenny Cohen.” If it sounds tailor-made for the actress, that is because it was.
“Uma and I have been friends for a very long time. I’m thrilled that after many tries we’ll finally get to work together,” said Executive Producer Adam Brooks. “Paul Adelstein and I wrote the role of Lenny Cohen specifically for her, and we are so excited to see how Uma’s iconic and very special talents will bring to life this unique and provocative character.”
The dark comedy series order was announced back in March of this year. It is Bravo’s first scripted greenlight produced through the new NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment unit led by Bill McGoldrick, EVP, Scripted Content. Here is how the cabler described My So Called Wife, at that time:
“My So Called Wife” (wt) follows Maddie (Inbar Lavi, “Gang Related”), a master-of-disguise con-artist who gets men and women to fall in love with her, marries them and then disappears with their money and just enough dirty inside information to guarantee they will never go to the police. But things get complicated when her latest victims, Ezra (Rob Heaps, “Frankenstein and the Vampyre: A Dark and Stormy Night”) and Richard (Parker Young, “Suburgatory”) track her down just as she eyes her next mark, Patrick (Stephen Bishop, “Being Mary Jane”).
My So Called Wife joins Bravo’s original scripted slate including Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce and Odd Mom Out. Production began in August, in Vancouver. The series is produced by Universal Cable Productions. Adam Brooks and Paul Adelstein executive produce. It is slated for a 2017 premiere.
