“NURSE JACKIE” TO WORK ONE LAST SHIFT
Hit SHOWTIME(R) Comedy Series’ Seventh and Final Season Will Premiere In 2015
LOS ANGELES, CA – September 10, 2014 – After six award-winning and critically-acclaimed seasons, NURSE JACKIE, the SHOWTIME hit comedy starring the extraordinary Edie Falco, will begin production this week on its seventh and final season, it was announced today by David Nevins, President, Showtime Networks Inc. The series, which premiered in 2009, instantly became one of the network’s signature series, garnering multiple awards, including several Emmy(R) Awards, a Humanitas Prize, an AFI Award for “Outstanding Television Program” and several Prism Awards for its depiction of substance abuse. It has also placed its star Edie Falco in the rare position of being the only actress to ever win the lead acting Emmy Awards in both comedy and drama, and the most nominated television performer in Screen Actors Guild Awards history. As one of the highest-rated SHOWTIME comedies, as well as the network’s top female skewing comedy, NURSE JACKIE averaged 3.4 million weekly viewers across platforms in its sixth season, once again outperforming its prior season. NURSE JACKIE is a co-production between SHOWTIME and Lionsgate.
“Edie is one of our finest actresses,” said Nevins. “We are so honored to have had her on the network. She creates indelible characters and Nurse Jackie Peyton is no exception. I know this final season will bring her story to a close that will satisfy the ever-growing number of loyal viewers who have been entranced and, at times, appalled by Jackie through the years. I want to thank Edie, the incredible cast of NURSE JACKIE and Clyde Phillips and Richie Jackson who have led the show to the success that it is today.”
“It is with great sadness and pride that we and SHOWTIME bid farewell to such an outstanding series like NURSE JACKIE, its stellar cast led by the incomparable Edie Falco, brilliant producing team led by Clyde Phillips and Richie Jackson, and the entire NURSE JACKIE family of craftspeople and artists that bring this show to rapt audiences year after year,” said Kevin Beggs, Chairman, Lionsgate Television. “We consider ourselves lucky to have been part of the NURSE JACKIE story and look forward to an unforgettable final season”
NURSE JACKIE also stars Merritt Wever in her Emmy-winning role, Paul Schulze, Dominic Fumusa, Anna Deavere Smith, Stephen Wallem, Betty Gilpin, Ruby Jerins, Mackenzie Aladjem and Peter Facinelli. Tony Shalhoub will guest star this season. Clyde Phillips serves as showrunner and executive producer. Tom Straw, Richie Jackson, Liz Flahive and Caryn Mandabach also executive produce.
Showtime Networks Inc. (SNI), a wholly-owned subsidiary of CBS Corporation, owns and operates the premium television networks SHOWTIME(R), THE MOVIE CHANNEL(TM) and FLIX(R), as well as the multiplex channels SHOWTIME 2(TM), SHOWTIME(R) SHOWCASE, SHOWTIME EXTREME(R), SHOWTIME BEYOND(R), SHOWTIME NEXT(R), SHOWTIME WOMEN(R), SHOWTIME FAMILY ZONE(R) and THE MOVIE CHANNEL(TM) XTRA. What do you think? Do you like Nurse Jackie? Are you sorry that the show is ending or is it the right time?
Nurse Jackie helped to tell the truth about addiction. Season 7 ending was bad. No real closure. Addicts wind up sobered up, locked up, or covered up, and Season 7 had no such demise. At least a “Farscape” style finale (90-120 min episode) to bring some sort of closure to not only the fans but the wonderful actors and actresses as well is in order. Show Jackie and Eddie sobered up and living right day by day, or show them locked up for a number of years. Better yet, show Eddie suffering HUGE consequences (even death) as a direct result… Read more »

Really? C’mon! Season 8 Please!
I can’t believe there will not be a season 8, 9, 10 etc. This was a fantastic show. Wondering how things turn out for Jackie…Finally a great show to watch them “BAM” no more great show. Very upset…
I can’t believe that the show is ending like it did. It left too many on answered questions. It also didn’t feel like a finale or ending, I thought for sure there would be a season 8. Very disappointed to see that there will not be a season 8.
Im pissed…
Awful ending. It’s like you ended it like that because there was supposed to be a season 8, and then just nothing.
Oh well. There was to many similarities to House M.D. for me to truely get into this show.
But, maybe Thor could get his own show??
PLEASE MAKE AN EIGHTH SEASON!!! How can you end it like that?! What happens to Edie while he’s in prison? Did Jackie live through the heroin overdose? What happens with the relationship of her and her daughters? I HAVE TO KNOW!
I cant believe there isn’t going to be a season eight!! this is my absolute favorite tvv show!! this angers me a lot. You guys keep canceling all the good shows and are putting on ones that aren’t interesting , if a series is doing good and a lot of people are watching it , why cancel it?? makes no sense. My mom is so mad.
