The Originals wrapped up its fourth season on CW on Friday night, and fans will have a long wait for the return of the series.
Why the long wait for the return of this series?
CW did not add The Originals to its fall schedule. The network is holding back the series, which started as a spin-off of The Vampire Diaries, to midseason. That means at least a late 2016 start, but more than likely the series will return to CW in January.
The decision to hold the series for midseason was discussed by Mark Pedowitz at the CW Upfronts earlier this week. According to TV Line, he said:
“We have a very strong schedule. We still believe quite a bit in The Originals. We only have 10 hours, so we made a choice to [hold it] to further boost our schedule at midseason.”
As a fan of this series, this writer was confused by the announcement of the delay to midseason. In a recent interview, Julie Plec talked about future crossovers between The Vampire Diaries and The Originals for next season, but the creator wants to have those opportunities come up organically.
A delay for one of the series cuts off the opportunities for those moments. The two shows have different casts and stories, but even after three years on the air, The Originals has shown that it is still very much connected to the world of The Vampire Diaries.
SPOILER ALERT. On the finale, Klaus sacrificed himself in order for all of his siblings to live. Freya created a spell that would put her siblings to sleep after Marcel had her poisoned and bit Elijah and Kol. Klaus was daggered, and the final moments saw Marcel hiding him away behind bricks. Hayley drove off and left New Orleans with four caskets and Hope. Her mission is to find cures for the Mikaelsons.
Right now, it looks like she will be looking for that cure for nine months. That is a one very long wait. Are you surprised that CW did not put The Originals on their fall schedule? Tell us what you think.
I’m another disappointed fan of the delay of the originals. That and the vampire diaries and supernatural are the programs I enjoy watching.I rarely watch anything else. Please bring them back
Iam soooo disappointed . This show became a spin off to the vampires diaries not only am I devastating that they cancelled the vampire diaries, but now you have the audacity to have me wait mid season to find out what happens to the main characters…ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!! I know it’s just a show but in an Era of reality shows taking over I needed some prime time T.V..not to mention I absolutely love vampire diaries and the originals.. So disappointed!!! I have been waiting patiently for the Originals to air on the CW. It is the only show I am interested in on the CW. The suspense of having to wait is killing me. I love the Originals.
I love the originals I hate To Wait Forever It seems. I will not be watching cw till its bac back on.
As an older viewer, The Originals is a show that older people like! It is not for high-schoolers, more complex situations. Seems like the CW only wants teeny-boppers for viewers! Can’t stand Jane the Virgin. Who thought of that? After the Originals end, I will no longer care if TWC takes it off its schedule of channels, and I won’t watch any other shows. The Flash and Arrow are getting stupid anyway. The kid who plays the Flash, couldn’t act his way out of a paper bag. He would die in there. Long live the Michaelsons!
I agree with all, but (not the Barry Alan part)……..I love him, he’s great. I get frustrated with all these great shows that get ruined when all the soppy lovesick moments that have to drag out… over take any actual show time! Then you all wonder where all the fans go! Klaus and caroline story was good, Stefan and Eleanor was good they are all great until it’s turned into a cheesy love fest following relationships instead of an actual supernatural show! I hope it isn’t the end for Klaus and his siblings I love them all.I can wait till Jan to watch them just don’t end them. Please.
All these people and viewers mean nothing to CW they want to own younger gender viewing audience sad The originals pure entertainment grand performances and writing and the don’t care ! I will wait wait and. Watch but I am watching nothing else CW offers . I am sick of their trash bs comedies and other shows period!
It is buy far the best vampire show to ever hit the air cw is very stupid for doing this not very smart at all in my opinion,there is still so much story left and to leave everyone hanging in the dark is just str8 b.s
Love the show but really missed Rebecah! Didn’t like that the micaelsons seemed to be helpless against the witch community. They started to seem so weak compared to witches and always getting beaten and knocked around. Give Klaus and the other vampires more strength and power!!!
I am is a huge huge fan of the Originals. I am so disappointed that it won’t be back on in the fall. I think this is a big mistake. More people I talk to watch this more than some of the other shows, even more than Vampire Dairies, which i still love. Please bring it on sooner than January. Been waiting all summer.
IMHO The CW should have let go of Super Natural and/or Vampire Diaries and brought back The Originals for a full season.
It’s part of my tv routine and I am a big fan. I hope it returns soon. CW has to bring it back.
The Originals deserve full season!!! Why is CW bringing so much crap to tv? The Originals excellent acting and writing!!! This is a shame to make us all wait sigh!!! Did they write themselves into a box ???
No they did not write themselves into a box,C.W is just stupid they chose super girl and behind the scenes flash and the arrow and it filled up the slots what a big mistake!!!!!!
The Originals one of the best shows on the CW and it is pushed back this fall which as a fan is very disappointing and I’m not really looking forward to watching anything this fall now that they’re are pushed back.. other than Supernatural The Vampire Diaries which are very good shows in my opinion other than the originals there’s nothing else on the CW worth watching other than the three shows that I mentioned sincerely a very disappointed fan
The Originals was one of my favorite shows that was a spin-off of Vampire Diaries it really makes me angry that this fall I will not have the enjoyment to watch my favorite show.. the only other show I will be watching will be Supernatural and The Vampire Diaries everything else that’s on in my opinion isn’t worth it other than the originals and those other two shows that I mentioned.. I am sure that there is going to be more Angry fans like myself who will be truly disappointed in the decision of The Originals be put back this… Read more »
i agree with you that was one show I couldn’t wait to get home to see. But as usual it always happens to the shows worth watching.
