Although the Outlander TV show dropped in the 18-49 year old viewer demographic in season two, the total audience actually grew by nearly five percent. Because premium cable networks rely on paid subscribers — rather than ad revenue — audience growth is more important than a show’s demo numbers. Starz was quick to respond to that growth and renewed Outlander through its fourth season, back in June of 2016. Can it build on its success? Will Outlander be cancelled or renewed for more seasons on Starz? Stay tuned.
A time travel drama, Outlander, stars Caitriona Balfe as Claire Randall and Sam Heughan as Jamie Fraser. The Starz cast also includes Tobias Menzies, Duncan Lacroix, Lotte Verbeek, Laura Donnelly, Steven Cree, Grant O’Rourke, Richard Rankin, and Sophie Skelton.
Outlander, season three, is based on the third novel in Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander book series, Voyager. It picks up right after Claire (Balfe) leaves Jamie (Heughan) behind in the 18th century, and travels through the stones, back to her life in 1948. Now expecting Jamie’s baby, Claire must deal with her first husband, Frank (Menzies) and his reaction to her disappearance and return. Meanwhile, back in time, Jamie struggles with the aftermath of his doomed last stand at the Battle of Culloden, as well as the loss his soul mate. **Status update below.

What do you think? Do you like the Outlander TV show? Should this Starz TV series be cancelled or renewed beyond season four?
** 5/9/2018 status update: Starz has renewed Outlander for season five and season six. Season four will debut on a date TBD in November 2018. Details here.
It’s my hope that Outlander is allowed to continue since it is the only reason I subscribe to Stars.
Finally the ratings are climbing . People are finally hearing about the show and watching it. Happy for it!
Finally Outlander is back! Aaaah Jamie & Claire! Couldn’t watch 1st episode due to “Irma” outages. But will be glued to my seat today to watch it. I agree with all the other comments. Show is extremely well done and true to the books. Historical, beautiful scenery, great acting, great love story…what more could you ask for? Too bad the younger audience doesn’t appreciate it and would rather watch their poorly-acted/written zombie shows. Thank you Diane G. for writing such a beautiful story!
Totally agree Linda, Outlander outshines
Please keep in mind that there are many hurricane victims in the wake of Harvey and Irma. I’m in south Florida lucky enough to have power but no cable or internet at home and will now miss the second episode as well as the first. I am so sad (but happy to have electricity). Please keep the show going until all the books are shown.
The only reason I’ve ever paid for Starz was to watch Outlander. If it’s cancelled I cancel Starz. It’s one of only a very few tv series that I watch.
I love Outlander and would love to see it continue after the season 4 that has already been approved. I follow on Facebook & Instagram to keep up with the show, actors and locations. Please keep it going.
I keep Starz for Outlander. I follow Starz Instagram and Twitter to get updates and more stories about the locations and actors.
I subscribed to Amazon Prime solely because it shows Outlander. It is far and away my favourite television series. I love all the books and am very hopeful that the series will survive for more seasons. The fans are so passionate about this show, and many are making the trip from all around the world to Scotland to visit places associated with Outlander. This has given the tourist industry a boost too.
Love Outlander it began on Netflix season one then I bought season two from iTunes now I’ve bought season three as well love it great story line really hope it continues until all the books are produced as a season
My husband and I love to watch Outlander. It’s the only reason we keep Starz. If Outlander goes so do we. The first episode of season 3 aired when a Cat 5 hurricane was about to hit Flordia. Another Cat 4 hurricane in the Atlantic. All eyes were on the weather. Rateing will go up I’m sure. I really hope Starz will keep Outlander running through the 8 books.
If STARZ cancelled OUTLANDER, I do believe that fans would riot..lol. and if you are concentrating on only a young demographic, that is rather shallow. The book series is well written and the fans have been waiting for over 20 years for tbis story to be put on screen in a respectful manner and Ronald D Moore and his crew are doing exactly that. This show should have WON MANY AWARDS for shows, actors and any and all categories. There is some incredible talent in this show so YES KEEP OUTLANDER on until the whole series is done. AND, the… Read more »
I subscribe to SARTZ only to watch Outlander! I keep it year-round to watch it over and over. I would like to see Outlander throughout the entire 10 book series!!!!!
I subscribe to the STARZ app (vs. adding to my DIRECTv package) and keep it year round only for Outlanders! I love to watch it over and over and over. The other shows you offer are my in between fillers. Please keep renewing Outlanders. I never understood game of thrones, but Jamie and Claire ❣️
More seasons please. Love the historical aspects and spectacular scenery apart from the great romance
I don’t have Start. I do,however, have Amazon Prime. My sole reason for subscribing was to access Outlander. I started reading the books whilst on mat leave with my youngest (he’s just turned 26!). The screen adaptation is fantastic, faithful to the books and always entertaining. I truly believe it deserves to renewed.
