First, FOX cancelled Lone Star and then, ABC cancelled My Generation. Not wanting to be left out, NBC has now cancelled Outlaw. The Jimmy Smits series has ceased production but viewers will still be able to see the remaining episodes.
Outlaw follows a Supreme Court Justice (Smits) who decides to step down and go back to being a lawyer in order to fight injustices. The NBC series also stars Carly Pope, David Ramsey, Jesse Bradford, and Ellen Woglom.
The series debuted following the season finale of one of NBC’s biggest shows, America’s Got Talent, and could only attract moderate ratings. In its regular Friday night timeslot, Outlaw’s ratings have gone from bad to worse. This past Friday, the show hit a new low in the 18-49 demographic with a 0.9 rating and fell to just 4.10 million viewers. It was in last place in both categories.

As we previously reported, NBC shut down production last week, supposedly wanting to wait to see if viewership got better in later weeks. If that was actually the case, they didn’t wait very long. Outlaw has been cancelled and the cast and crew won’t be returning to production.
For the time being, NBC will fill the 10pm timeslot with an expanded edition of Dateline. The four remaining episodes of Outlaw will be seen on Saturday nights starting on October 16th. An episode won’t be seen on October 30th because of a previously schedule Shrek special. The last episode of Outlaw will air on November 13th.
What do you think? Are you sorry to see it go? Why do you think it didn’t attract a bigger audience?

I strongly agree with all the above supporters of Outlaw -and Jimmy Smits! It was a really good show and I, too have been hunting for it and have just discovered that it had already been cancelled. NBC blew it again! There are so many shows that should be cancelled, but Outlaw was an immediate class act with a lot of future potential.
I thought Outlaws was a great show. To compete with CBS and ABC you need great shows like Outlaws. Please bring it back!!!!!!!
I must say to my not so shocking suprise they have cancelled yet another show that I looked forward to. I really don’t understand this crap, it is rather upsetting that my shows keep getting flushed down the drain. I have to watch a bunch of junk that simply for a lack of better words are stupid. I want my Outlaw back.
Outlaw was a very good show. I look forward to seeing it and I must agreed with everyone else on thinking it should be picked up by the cable stations. They seem to only be the ones who know what quality shows are about. It is sad that the locals believe in reality and shows that just don’t make sense.
Please bring back Outlaw.
There’re a lot of shows that should be canceled, however, this was not one. This was a very good show and I am going to miss it.
I agree with everyone here. This was a great show! It had character and integrity; isn’t that what America is about? It was a good clean wholesome show and that is why it is off the air. Does anyone else see that whats on tv is what the country is in; for example (90’s comedy shows= good economy; 00’s crime shows= bad economy)? Sure we have Big Bang and a few others but for the most part we do not have good comedy shows and the ones that are on are wacky. Networks are focused on crime. This is the… Read more »
Outlaw, sad to see it go! I kept looking for the show and realized today it was cancelled. I guess four million viewers wasn’t enough for NBC, what a joke! NBC- those viewers were smart viewers. This was an excellent show, it stood for something.
Just went to watch this on hulu.com and noticed they said the “entire series” is now available. Entire series?!?!?! This show only just started…how can it be canceled so soon? Reading this entry and comments above, I’m reminded why I don’t actually tune into NBC much. I’m incredibly disappointed. I would go to hulu.com specifically to search for episodes of this show. I never watched it on-air, so didn’t know they buried it on Friday nights. What a stupid time to schedule a show and expect good ratings. Don’t they have a clue that viewership on Friday nights is pretty… Read more »
Is a great show – nice change from the regular stuff – and a show my husband and I both liked. Bad choice – NBC.
Very good show NBC’s lost once again they blew it. Change the time slots before giving up on it.
Good idea sell it to other stations.
I absolutely hate NBC. Once again they cancel a very good show. I loved outlaw and loved jimmy smits as this character. I think that NBC should have gave it a better time slot and it would have done better. They need to replace the person or people who are making these decisions before it is too late and the network bombs!!! Hasn’t everyone gotten enough of dateline!! Come on put outlaw back on
Outlaw was a really good show with a good cast–this is so ridiculous! They should have canceled Outsourced, Undercovers or the new Law and Order instead!!
You people are absolutely crazy, how your bad decisions don’t run your network into the ground is beyond me. It seems to me that when you are presented with good programs (i say presented because i know the network didn’t create them) with interesting plots and unique characters and different stories you panic and cancel it only to replace it with a watered down version of some other networks idea you saw that was working, without any regard for the viewers who love and support the good show you already had on the air. I wish you would create a… Read more »
Once again NBC execs cancel a very good show, nothing else on television like it. Maybe if you gave it a better time slot and not on Saturday at 10pm. I believe that this should be showing on a Wednesday between 8-10pm , there is a following but not on Saturday. Maybe NBC should think about selling it to TNT, TBS or USA , Those channels seem to be getting better shows and Outlaw would be a great fit into there schedule.
Just found outlaw on Hulu really liked it .Shouldnt have been cancelled
Why are all the shows that Jimmy Smits are in are canceled all the time??? Outlaw was such a good show and seeing Jimmy Smits every week was just awesome, finally a good looking man to watch on Primetime. I think it sucks that production was canceled!!!!!!!!!!! Bring back Jimmy Smits and put in a series that will last!
