NBC has decided to yank their freshman sitcom Perfect Couples from the schedule after April 7th. It’ll be replaced by The Paul Reiser Show on Thursday nights. Does this mean that Perfect Couples is canceled and gone for good?
Perfect Couples revolves around three young couples. Dave (Kyle Bornheimer) and Julia (Christine Woods) are the “everyday couple,” who are messed up in all the “normal” ways. Vance (David Walton) and Amy (Mary Elizabeth Ellis) are the high-passion, high-drama couple. Rex (Hayes MacArthur) is a reformed party guy and Leigh (Olivia Munn) is a self-anointed relationship guru who considers it her duty to mold the other couples in their image.
The NBC sitcom has been struggling in the ratings from the beginning. The network gave it viewers a sneak peak in December and that generated a terrible 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 3.56 million viewers. A month later, the second episode brought a mediocre 2.1 rating and 4.15 million. The numbers quickly started falling and the latest episode hit a low of a 1.2 rating.
The whole season of Perfect Couples currently averages a 1.5 rating in the demo and just 3.27 million viewers. It’s the lowest-rated scripted series on the network by far and even The Cape has a better season average. Bornheimer has committed to a new FOX pilot while Walton has signed on for a new NBC one.
So, no, NBC has not cancelled Perfect Couples officially, there are many very strong indications that it won’t be back next season. NBC has no incentive to bring it back and even cast one of the sitcom’s actors in one of their new shows.
Right now, it looks like there will be four unaired episodes of Perfect Couples. They may or may not see the light of day at a later date.
What do you think? Are you sorry to see Perfect Couples go? Do you think that it still has a chance to return for a second season?
Perfect couples is an insult to all of humanity. Worst show ever.
Love the show….as a busy working parent, i loved the fact that i could watch it online on my own time….so do ratings take into account ppl who watch online?
Pls dont cancel the show…
I am heartbroken because this is my favorite new show! NBC is notorious for having no faith in their shows. I’m sure you can think of some other amazing shows they canceled prematurely. I laugh so hard when I watch this show, and I can tell it would have only gotten much better. My girlfriend and I are crazy about the show. It’s sad because we can’t find anyone else who watches it. Most people don’t even know what it is. Anyway, I’m really really sad the show might get canceled.
I am SO SAD to hear this! My husband and I found it late and we think it’s hysterical and look forward to it every week. The dialouge is really brilliant – it just desperately needs better promotion!
Please don’t cancel!!
And I’m not a Paul Reiser fan, either. I think he had his day.
Love this show. We starting watching from the second episode on and as a 32 year old with wife and kid and several other friends in the same boat, we all can relate to this show. Needs proper advertising.
I am NOT a Paul Reiser fan, so you can bet I won’t be watching that show..
From the get go, I got this quick-witted humor and the quirkiness of these characters that embodied this show. I am hoping NBC will re-consider keeping this show. This show was never advertised as far as I know and I am an avid NBC viewer and don’t recall seeing much advertisements for this show.
Hate to see it go 🙁 it’s cleverly funny. I’m a gay woman and even I get it!!! Hope another network like USA will pick it up! NBC dropped Monk and look how well it did on that network! Tony Shaloub won awards food his role. It just goes to show that time slots are everything…
Good luck Perfect Couples!
personally the show has a quirky plot line that anyone who is in a relationship can relate to. but as always a major network cancels shows that are entertaining but keep shows like the apprentice and jersey shore on. its pathetic.
NOOOOOOOO. This show is awesome =( I understood it’s humor. Bring it back
Big fan of perfect couples. It should stay. I think if it was given a different time slot between some of the other popular shows on nbc it would definitely pull its weight.
So sorry to hear this! I’m really impressed with this show – good writing, great acting, interesting characters, good chemistry and great humour that avoids the stereotypical set-up/joke, set-up/joke pattern (and without a laughtrack insulting the audience’s intelligence by trying to tell us every second line is hilarious). I laugh outloud a LOT every episode and I think it could really take off if it was given a chance and was marketed correctly (I think that The Office fans would appreciate it).

I agree entirely with Stella’s comments about the show!! As I’d commented separately, this show was never marketed to the public. The few viewers like us who took a peek at the show enjoyed it from the start and I have kept up with EVERY episode, with laughter and hilarity of the sitcom. I can identify with each character separately, so my BF and I, that hits home for us! Fab show and hope it stays on the air!!!
Please don’t cancel “Perfect Couples!!” We found it late, as did many other people, but we absolutely LOVE it!
It wasn’t promoted much, and we wd be sad to see it go just because of that.
This show is terrible, cancellation was inevitable.
