AMC has decided to cancel Rubicon after one season of 13 episodes.
Billed as a conspiracy thriller, Rubicon is set in a government intelligence agency where nothing is as it seems. The cast includes James Badge Dale, Dallas Roberts, Jessica Collins, Christopher Evan Welch, Lauren Hodges, Arliss Howard, and Miranda Richardson.
The TV show was previewed back in June and attracted a 0.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 1.07 million viewers. When the series officially kicked off in August, the demo dropped to a 0.3 rating with 1.9 million viewers. The demo dropped to a 0.2 after that and the whole season averaged a 0.3 rating and 1.25 million viewers.
That wasn’t enough for AMC to want a second season and the cable channel has now cancelled the series.
Of the cancellation decision, AMC released the following statement, “Rubicon’ gave us an opportunity to tell a rich and compelling story, and we’re proud of the series. This was not an easy decision, but we are grateful to have had the opportunity to work with such a phenomenally talented and dedicated team.”
The 13th and final episode of Rubicon aired on October 17th.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that it’s been cancelled? What would you liked to have seen in season two?

Too bad the show was canceled!
I was just searching around to see when season 2 was going to air and found that it has been cancelled. It’s too bad we have to wade through so much drivel such as CSI:(fill in city name here) while more original shows like Rubicon fall by the wayside.
RUBICON is 1 of the 2 or 3 best series on TV (The Wire and maybe Sopranos) of the past few years. Hate to see it go, we just sat thru a repeat of Season 1, and was looking forward to Season 2. Hope some other channel is smart enough to pick it up.
Are you guys nuts? How can they cancel a second series hanging around in mid-air? If I knew that beforehand, I would not have watched it-very frustrating indeed that they started something and not finishing it!
I am disappointed the series is cancelled. While I found it’s story captivating from the beginning, I can understand why many viewing the first 10 episodes didn’t hang in until the plot started to become more intriguing as was reflected in the last three episodes.
Much like Stargate Universe, Rubicon fades away into oblivion. Can’t have shows that require a little bit of intellect to follow and be happy to let the story grow and mature. But I guess we shouldn’t despair, I am sure the station will replace it with a stimulating reality program of illiterate, uneducated, sex crazed 20 somethings that share their daily highlights like being able to successfully dressed themselves, wipe the drool from the corners of their mouths without drips as they talk excitedly about their great lives and their $8.00/hour jobs and scintillating future aspirations like being able to… Read more »
I thought “Rubicon” was well acted, scripted and paced. Rather dismaying to all of a sudden discover it is no more (the series was broadcast on the Multichoice network in South Africa in 2011). There was no “heads up” from the network so investing that little bit of emotional energy in the characters was a bit futile. Should have checked on the internet in the first place. Then we could have gone drinking ‘sted of wasting all that time. Back to the wretched vampires, one supposes.
I was so disappointed when I realised that the show will not continue as I thought it was brilliant. Somehow I missed episode 13 – Aaarrrggg.
I wonder if people are just to lazy to think or be stimulated.
I support all sentiments in this blog and would be soooo happy if it can be introduced back for a next season.
Or… where can we get hold of the script – I need to get closure
I’m sorry to hear the Rubicon series is being cancelled. It is a real thinking person’s program and really deserves a second and possibly third season. As television viewers, we are most often fed nothing but dumbed-down stale drivel, and Rubicon was a thought provoking breath of fresh air.
The AMC executives should give the series a longer opportunity to attract and grow it’s audience. Thanks for the consideration.

This was the best new show in ages. Interesting plot, great acting, finally something challenging. I am completely disappointed. Please assist in getting it back.
Dang it AMC. I’m getting hooked on your t.v shows and now your taking away 1 of my top 3. SO DISAPPOINTED !!!!! Guess too much thinking isn’t good for some people, lol.
probably killed off too many good characters too soon. agree with previous, not nice to just leave us hanging. hbo to the rescue? help!
We will miss this show and can’t comprehend its cancellation. The storyline was supenseful with brillant acting. The supporting role of Miranda Richardson, one of Britains finest actor place Rubicon in the top tier of tv. Shame on you AMC.
I am so sorry to hear Rubicon isn’t coming back. We really enjoyed it. Why not bring it back long enough to have an ending. It’s just drives me crazy to get interested in a show and then it go off leaving those of us who enjoyed it hanging. Was there an ending when the show started?
Well, I am disappointed about this cancellation. AMC had started doing some really good television, and I was impressed. I’ll miss having my brain challenged, and I’ll miss the fine acting. I liked every character, even the slimy ones. Come on AMC execs, consider those of us who enjoy challenging stories.
