AMC has decided to cancel Rubicon after one season of 13 episodes.
Billed as a conspiracy thriller, Rubicon is set in a government intelligence agency where nothing is as it seems. The cast includes James Badge Dale, Dallas Roberts, Jessica Collins, Christopher Evan Welch, Lauren Hodges, Arliss Howard, and Miranda Richardson.
The TV show was previewed back in June and attracted a 0.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 1.07 million viewers. When the series officially kicked off in August, the demo dropped to a 0.3 rating with 1.9 million viewers. The demo dropped to a 0.2 after that and the whole season averaged a 0.3 rating and 1.25 million viewers.
That wasn’t enough for AMC to want a second season and the cable channel has now cancelled the series.
Of the cancellation decision, AMC released the following statement, “Rubicon’ gave us an opportunity to tell a rich and compelling story, and we’re proud of the series. This was not an easy decision, but we are grateful to have had the opportunity to work with such a phenomenally talented and dedicated team.”
The 13th and final episode of Rubicon aired on October 17th.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that it’s been cancelled? What would you liked to have seen in season two?

AMC GOT HALF *** INFO ON THE RATINGSAND DEMOGRAPHICS…Lots of people watched this show that were not included in this information you collected. Give it a Second Season….
Rubicon was our favorite show!!! We analized every sentance and have been waiting with baited breath for seaon two. Guess it just goes to show you America is not wanting to use their brain and think too hard. Everybody loves stupid one liners, not a series with suspense.
I don’t agree that AMC sucks. At least they brought Rubicon to the air. Most of the other networks would not have considered it.
One of the best shows in 2010. Although Mr. Picard would believe that I suffer from ADD, I agree with some of the critics that the show was “slow” on some episodes. It would be one thing if these “slow” periods added to some worthwhile character development but it did seem like “filler” to get to the number of shows needed. I was looking forward to seeing Season Two.
My wife and I eagerly awaited each of the thirteen episodes along with our friends and neighbors. We all enjoyed discussing each episode together trying to anticipate what would happen next and the ultimate outcome. It was a compelling, suspense-filled spy mystery and we are all sad that AMC has cancelled. I think R. Chen has captured all of our collective opinions regarding this decision.
AMC sucks !!
i am so tired of shows going off the air…..can you imagine what would have happened to the old classics if they’d been pulled like this after only one season? bonanza…gunsmoke….my three sons…..flintstones….. it seems that now a days all the shows that actually stimulate your brain cells are pulled, leaving the brain dead shows on. guess it lines up with the general literacy level of the planet these days, but it is still a crime to see shows like rubicon dropped. curious question…..there is so much downloading of shows now on line…how can you possibly know how many watching…and… Read more »
It’s a shame it has been cancelled. I, too, discovered it by accident and found it very interesting.
What a disappointment! My wife and I watched every episode. It was great dramatic television. The story lines were very intriguing. I enjoy programming that makes you watch closely and focus in order to not miss any of the details and this show had a lot of detail. It was very well written. The character development was tight. I will miss Rubicon greatly.
I just found out that Rubicon is not returning. So disappointing!!! It was an outstanding production. I liked it better than most Masterpiece Theatre shows. AMC didn’t appear to promote it. I discovered it by accident. When I mentioned it to people who like suspense stories, I always (emphasis on “always” since it was 100% of the time) got the “deer in the headlight” look because they had not stumbled over it as I had.
Rubicon was one of the finest cerebral spy stories ever produced. It reminded me of BBC productions with great suspense in the context of unpredictable twists. I’m sorry that one million people just doesn’t count. Maybe they should have promoted it better. Great cast, great story line, great camera.
I am truly disappointed to find this has been cancelled, easily one of the best shows I have seen. I have the whole season on the DVR and have been showing it to others as opportunities allowed. Hope to see it picked back up here or on another network.
What a shame, enjoyed every episode and couldn’t wait for another. I am not one to watch series but this one caught my and eye and like a good novel I cant get enough.
Rubicon was astounding. I don’t get how some critics considered the pace “too slow”. It’s a sad reflection on the ADD-addled minds that have resulted form this age where one sees 50 screens with flashing lights before 8am everyday. This show was gripping and incredibly suspenseful, start to finish. The acting, directing, writing, set designs and continuity of narrative were all as close to flawless as I have ever seen on television. I truly hope they bring it back or another network picks it up (though I have nowhere near as much faith in HBO, Showtime or any other network… Read more »
I’m totally upset that it will not be coming back. I was just thinking that it might be time again…..sad. Every show should get 2 seasons.
