AMC has decided to cancel Rubicon after one season of 13 episodes.
Billed as a conspiracy thriller, Rubicon is set in a government intelligence agency where nothing is as it seems. The cast includes James Badge Dale, Dallas Roberts, Jessica Collins, Christopher Evan Welch, Lauren Hodges, Arliss Howard, and Miranda Richardson.
The TV show was previewed back in June and attracted a 0.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 1.07 million viewers. When the series officially kicked off in August, the demo dropped to a 0.3 rating with 1.9 million viewers. The demo dropped to a 0.2 after that and the whole season averaged a 0.3 rating and 1.25 million viewers.
That wasn’t enough for AMC to want a second season and the cable channel has now cancelled the series.
Of the cancellation decision, AMC released the following statement, “Rubicon’ gave us an opportunity to tell a rich and compelling story, and we’re proud of the series. This was not an easy decision, but we are grateful to have had the opportunity to work with such a phenomenally talented and dedicated team.”
The 13th and final episode of Rubicon aired on October 17th.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that it’s been cancelled? What would you liked to have seen in season two?

Smart TV usually dies with few exceptions. i.e. The Wire, Damages. What a crying ******* shame. It was too good to last and then they tried with The Killing but it drowned in the rain halfway thru the season
This is the best show AMC has ever produced. Yes, it took an IQ over 40 to enjoy it, but many people I talk to on a regular basis were picking it up in mid season as word of mouth spread that there was a show for people like us out there. What did they replace it with? Why another zombie show, of course. Why not? Zombies are the audience AMC seems to be aiming at. The people who took this off the air deserve the failure they will reap now on their shows. Who is going to watch a… Read more »
Well, over here in The Netherlands we’re still watching Rubicon on the BBC, very sad to hear there won’t be a 2nd season but we still have a few episodes to go. Favorite character: Truxton Spangler, what a great name and bizarre man 🙂 Anyway, wish the general public would appreciate quality shows instead of the usual rubbish, but what can be done hey?
For you who haven’t watched Rubicon yet: enjoy!
Damn! They seem to Always Cancel the shows I LIKE! I was looking forward to RUBICON Season 2! It seems like if a show doesn’t fit the “masses mold” of repetitive, boring, already seen it someplace else crap; It gets canned & not in the good way! All Networks included. PUSHING DAISIES, CRUSOE, & More that I can’t remember right now! BREAKING BAD has already been played out…. Jumped The Shark already! If you don’t know who “The Fonze” is, then u might be too young to understand. & that’s why I play the same DVD’S over & over again!!
I think you have to give it a chance to catch on. Push the critical reviews, rev up publicity on the actors. Get some great press. I thinks it was Best mystery show of the modern time. Run season one again. Interview the stars.
It’s a lost great opportunity. Come back to it! No harm done.
Like John O.,I have been looking for the return of Rubucon.
Breaking Bad is HUGE. I LOVE IT….but…
That train crash..man!!! The crash of his friendship.
Rubicon is …or now was, the chance to tease your brain; allow you to really think.
Don’t get me wrong, I guess Zombies get better ratings. And
To let it slide into that next mistep that wasn’t taken.
Who’s the plant?
Using your brain…Rubicon was great. Love James Badge Dale. Have watched him for many years with admiration. .
You guys screwed this one up.
Just found out that Rubicon will not be back. Shouldn’t be surprised, mosy intelligent shows that tell a good story get the axe. Hopefully we can have another Zombie show.
Rubicon was by far the best program on tv. It makes you wonder who leads AMC, doesn’t it? It was the only thing worth watching on AMC. Too bad!
I am disappointed this series will not have a second season. I have been eagerly awaiting the follow-up to the cliff hanger of what I thought was Season One.
This is another case of J Q Public not recognizing a well written TV show and dumbing down for hours of inane situation comedies and even worse reality shows.
Perhaps if the powers that be stuck with shows like, this the viewing public would eventually get a taste of quality and start demanding more.
I’m tired of investing the time to watch 13 episodes of a promising show only to find it cancelled after the inaugural season. AMC is turning into the FOX network for crying out loud. I’m very disappointed! I guess reality TV wins after all!
Very Very diappointed that the series has been cancelled–now that the other shows are winding down, I looked online to see when season 2 of rubicon was coming on–what a disappointment that it was cancelled. I dvr a fair number of shows, but Rubicon was far and away my favorite show. If anyone connected with the show still reads this blog–please know that your loyal fans continue to be disappoined with AMC’s decision–perhaps the failure was not the writing, story line, nor acting–I suspect AMC’s failure to effectively publiize it with an audience that would embrace it was the reason… Read more »
Rubicon was a show I looked forward to each week. It as a great show with lots of believable twists and turns . I CAN NOT believe that it was cancelled given all the totally worthless reality and singing and dancing shows on the networks. Maybe it should be pitched to another network that needs a ratings infusion.
Rubicon was an exceptional program and I am dissatisfied with AMC’s decision.
I enjoyed Rubicon, It took conspiracy thrillers to a new level. It was more realistic and adult than the James Bond style movie. It would get you to think. It is very sad that there wouldn’t be a second season. When you talk cliff hanger, this is one. Best of luck to the cast and crew.
I just found out that the Rubicon series will not have a second season ! That’s really sad for such a great show. It’s even sadder for european audiences who can appreciate a lot more than the native Americans the morbid insinuations of this brilliant scenario.Anyway my warmest congratulations to the scriptwriters, directors and especially ACTORS for an amazing coup de….FILMAKING!!!!
