AMC has decided to cancel Rubicon after one season of 13 episodes.
Billed as a conspiracy thriller, Rubicon is set in a government intelligence agency where nothing is as it seems. The cast includes James Badge Dale, Dallas Roberts, Jessica Collins, Christopher Evan Welch, Lauren Hodges, Arliss Howard, and Miranda Richardson.
The TV show was previewed back in June and attracted a 0.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 1.07 million viewers. When the series officially kicked off in August, the demo dropped to a 0.3 rating with 1.9 million viewers. The demo dropped to a 0.2 after that and the whole season averaged a 0.3 rating and 1.25 million viewers.
That wasn’t enough for AMC to want a second season and the cable channel has now cancelled the series.
Of the cancellation decision, AMC released the following statement, “Rubicon’ gave us an opportunity to tell a rich and compelling story, and we’re proud of the series. This was not an easy decision, but we are grateful to have had the opportunity to work with such a phenomenally talented and dedicated team.”
The 13th and final episode of Rubicon aired on October 17th.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that it’s been cancelled? What would you liked to have seen in season two?

People with brains don’t watch TV. I guess that is why Rubicon was cancelled. Seems people only want stupid comedies and reality shows. They don’t want to have to THINK about what they are watching. Otherwise they would be watching Rubicon. It was the best TV series in years. I am very saddened that it is over and without resolving everything. Just left us hanging. Shame on you!
Finally a show that makes you think and it gets cancelled. Oh how sad…I loved this show
Can’t believe that they cancelled the show. They claim low viewership numbers! Everyone I talked to loved this show. What a shame, I was really looking forward to season 2…
This one should continue with James Badge Dale finding more and more incidents of deceiptful and monetary gains by the currupt managers of AGI. There was plenty of plotlines left open for writers to “faster pace” this good show
Interesting, sometimes suspenseful, sometimes slow (like a drip, drip and drip of water). Still great attempt, BUT here’s the thing: If they want to cancel, OK, cancel BUT at least wrap it up with a satisfactory series finale. Jeez! I hate committing to a show, have it run for its season, then have it cancelled unresolved. Seems AMC at least owes that to the show’s supporters?
Gee…what a surprise!!!!!! Used to watch “Life,” too.
Shame of it is, I loved the show, all of it – except for the season finale….WHICH SHOULD HAVE BEEN LIKE THE GRAND FINALE AT THE FOURTH OF JULY FIREWORKS!!!! THE WRITER(S) COULDN’T FIGURE OUT A FOCAL POINT FOR A CLIMAX. A SHOW OF TOTAL FOREPLAY…And you could’ve still set the stage for the next season, because there were questions then if there’d even be a next season.
Well, maybe there’ll be another intelligent show I’ll like down the road that I’ll like that’ll last for 7-20 episodes….
Bummer! This was my favorite show of the year! I was looking so forward to the next episode it was really just getting so good! I knew at the time it would not be popular with mass audiences do to the sophisticated story line. I was so nice to be able to watch a show that didn’t dumb down. Mad Men did not have high rating the first season but caught on due to critical acclaim. Please let Rubicon have one more season to prove itself.
I really enjoyed the first series and was looking forward to series 2.
Thanks for airing series 1 – it was great.
This ******* blows! More garbage on TV, reality TV crap. Yeah replace it with a Zombie show and cheap horror which will last one season as well. Middle management morons that don’t know dick!
Woe is me. I repeatedly watch shows that repeatedly get cancelled (Deadwood, Life on Mars, The Unusuals, Caprica, Rubicon). I won’t watch another AMC show until its at least in its 3rd season. I’m glad I’m not investing my time watching that zombie show.
Big mistake canceling the Rubicon series. The best series on TV this season. We never missed it, watched it in real time, tivo’ed it to rewatched it to catch all the nuances. You put too much store in that 18-49 demographic. We baby boomers arent dead yet, and we still have all the money! Stop letting all the children have a say at what is on TV.
Think Daniel Ellsberg watches this? Who knows. But he once was a brilliant analyst, and he came out with classified documents about the Vietnam war called “The Pentagon Papers”. He does research, study, and goes to the field to collect data which is the only exciting part of the job. Other than that its boring scholarly work. They have PhD’s and they wear proper office attire when they go to their offices. As for Rubicon’s API, it gave me a hang over, some overstreching of the imagination by the makers of the show like, a tanker blown up blocks the… Read more »
Finally, an intelligent, thoughtful show with real character development and what do they do–cancel. One of the few shows I ever watched anymore. Plus what the hell happens … anybody know if this is based on a book or something?
A really great show. Everyone I knew was watching it. What a mistake.
Really upset about this; Rubicon was a welcome change from the usual TV tripe. Pretty disgusted that they didn’t recognize the potential in this show.
