Though many critics loved the FX series, Terriers just couldn’t attract enough viewers to stay alive. FX has announced the TV show has been officially cancelled.
Terriers follows a pair of unorthodox and unlicensed private detectives. They’ll take just about any job, no matter how small or how strange. The show stars Donal Logue, Michael Raymond-James, Kimberly Quinn, Laura Allen, Rockmond Dunbar, and Jamie Denbo.
The series debuted to a 0.5 rating among the 18-49 demographic and 970,000 total viewers. When compared to other FX shows, that was a poor showing right from the start. The numbers went lower for subsequent episodes and the recent season finale attracted a 0.3 demo rating and 784,000 viewers.
FX President John Landgraf is expected to discuss the decision later today but ultimately the reason for the cancellation seems quite clear.
What do you think? Are you sorry that Terriers won’t be returning for a second season? Why didn’t it catch on? Was it simply a confusing title or something more?

Hubby and I LOVED Terriers! Very sad to see it go! It seems that all of the “out of the box” shows that we like get cancelled!
I love this damn show.. great cast, storylines, setting- cant believe it got cancelled. I hate you FX.
I LOVE TERRIERS. I think the writing is stellar and the Michael and Donal were amazing. I was hoping FX would see the gem they had in this show, but now I am hoping that another network see’s the fan base this show has. Bring it to Canada,I don’t understand why FX limits itself, branch out. Im from Canada and I love the station. I hope it gets picked up elsewhere.
Terriers was an awesome show with a stupid name and a *really* bad marketing campaign!! It was probably too intelligent and too honest for Americans who need to be spoonfed information and thrive on shows like CSI that have no subtetly or nuance. So sad to let such a great show go – I hope another network picks it up. And markets it!
This was a FANTASTIC SHOW. We can not believe that it will not be coming back. The characters were interesting. This is THE ONE SHOW my family look forward to watching. What a shame to let this go. PLEASE RECONSIDER AND BRING IT BACK FOR ANOTHER SEASON.
Man, I really dug this show. It had some great writing but maybe it just wasn’t flashy enough… I was really looking forward to Season 2! 🙁
I could write a book on why Terriers was the best show on TV since The Shield or LOST, but ultimately, the American public is as dumb as a bag of hammers. They require each episode to be wrapped up in a tidy little package, all the mysteries explained to the least among us. Terriers made a decision from the beginning to invest heavily in the characters. Hank and Britt became people we wanted to know more about with every passing week. There were quiet, powerful moments where more was said by the pain on Donal Logue’s face than an… Read more »
Excellent show! It’s a shame that another quality show doesn’t get a chance. Soon FX will be in the Reality TV busisness.
I liked Terriers, and I honestly thought that it was the only good new show this season (well, that and Boardwalk Empire), but this is not a surprise. No one seemed to be talking about it, and FX didn’t seem to be promoting it very much. Or at all, really.
Also…”Gretchen Dolworth” was the character; Kimberly Quinn was the actress who played her. You should probably fix that.
This is so disappointing. Terriers has become my go-to show while Mad Men isn’t on. Once again, the networks have taken away something smart and fresh. Regarding it catching on and how it was marketed, I only saw one trailer – which did pique my interest – but I really started watching it after a friend referred it after the first episode. Since then, I have tweeted about it, Facebooked about it, and told family and friends about it. I guess my posse just wasn’t enough 😉 I should also note – I am rarely able to catch it on… Read more »
I loved this show, cannot believe it is to be cancelled.
Yes, I think it was a terrible decision for a quality show. I blame the promotion (or major lack of promotion) by the network. I love the title of the show, but I can see how that could really have kept people from even trying the show, assuming it was yet another dog reality show (ugh). In case there is hope for Terriers to be revived, I’m expressing my voice here. I couldn’t find an online petition so I started one http://www.petitionbuzz.com/petitions/saveterrierstvshow Spread the word, post it on your facebook, twitter it. Lets get the ball rolling. I’m sure it… Read more »
I think FX is nuts! Literally! Some shows need longer to build an audience – this one had a great cast, story and production. So disappointed!! Terriers is invited to come and do a series on our network… get a worldwide Internet TV audience! That’s the future…. hint.
I thought this show was great. Only the good ones die young. (See: Terriers cancelled after Season one, Jersey Shore still chugging along.) Maybe it was the title, maybe it was the time slot, who knows. I just wish more people watched it because it deserves several more seasons.
My husband and I loved the show. We found it to be very cleaverly written and executed. There was not much of a dull moment to be honest. I do think the name of the show was off putting. When i first saw TERRIERS-i thought it was about dogs-like the shows PIT BULL BOSS etc. Fine acting and will miss it very much.
