While the press information for last Thursday’s finale of The Astronaut Wives Club promoted it as only the “season finale,” it seemed pretty clear that, once the episode aired, the show had ended for good. Many viewers had a tough time envisioning what a second season could be.
Now that the finale has aired, ABC has confirmed that episode 10 was indeed the last episode of the low-rated series, eliminating any question that there will be a second season.
For her part, series creator Stephanie Savage agrees with that decision and told TV Insider, “To us on the creative side, it’s always been a mini-series with a beginning, middle and end, with no possibility of a Season 2 because we told the story. I love that a lot of people love the characters and the world, but I don’t really see how this story gets told over again.”
Based on the book by Lily Koppel, The Astronaut Wives Club focuses on seven women who were key players behind some of the biggest events in American history. As America’s astronauts were launched on death-defying missions, the lives of their young wives were transformed — seemingly overnight — from military spouses to American royalty. The cast includes Yvonne Strahovski, Dominique McElligott, Odette Annable, Joanna García, Erin Cummings, Azure Parsons, Zoe Boyle, Bret Harrison, Aaron McCusker, Wilson Bethel, Kenneth Mitchell, and Desmond Harrington.
What do you think? Do you like The Astronaut Wives Club TV show? Would you have been open to watching a second season?
Loved the show. So sad to see it end.
Loved, loved, loved this show, and so did my 19 year old daughter. It was clean (so refreshing!), it was historical, and it really helped me appreciate what the astronauts and their wives had to go through. So much pride in their husbands, but also so much fear. It was fascinating to remember how different things were such a short time ago, and how far things have come for women. I so much want to meet all of the astronaut wives and talk with them personally about their experiences, their feelings, their fears, the times… Most of all I would… Read more »
I am sad that this show was only one season, but happy I was able to witness a true high quality show based on, yes, a book but also history. I hope to see more like this in the future.
Great show. I loved it.
So disappointed the show ended – I loved the story and the actresses/actors were just phenomenal!!! There is so much junk on tv these days, it was nice to watch a good television show!
I’m truly disappointed to learn there won’t be a Season 2. What a shame – this show featured great story lines, actors/actresses, and tied in parts of America’s history. Thought for sure it would be continued – and I will really miss watching this quality show.
Please don’t cancel the show. It’s a great representation of the space program and history of the nation. Why not keep it going through the shuttle years?
Amen, NASA continued long after Apollo 13!
Loved, loved, loved it. Will miss it
There wasnt supposed to be a season two. It was a one season event to tell the story based off of the book.
this show was great. So much for classy tv, it seems like the only things that make it are trash. But I guess we only have ourselves to blame bc it is what people watch on a consistent basis. I loved the show and the characters.
FYI – NASA’s history didn’t end w Apollo 13!!!
Cannot believe they cancelled
This show! But should’ve known – all the good ones get cancelled – at least they let this one have the full season! Networks are losing to premium stations for a reason…they give shows 5 minutes and then cancel them! Ridiculous and makes us not even want to invest in “new programming”
Should BOYCOTT ABC for not listening to viewers!
Loved, loved, loved this show! It seems that any show that takes the least bit of thought on the viewers part gets cancelled. I’m so tired of all of the reality shows. Bring back The Astronaut Wives Club, Forever, Touch, and Heroes.
Those were the types of shows that we need more of!
Absolutely shocked that they are ending this show after one season. I looked forward to it weekly. The acting was amazing. They keep such crappy shows and reality shows and cancel this one about history!? Not happy.
So true! So many reality shows that are NOT reality at all!
I agree. My husband and I looked forward to each week and the amazing acting that brought each character to life. This show really brought history to life also. We are so sick of trashy reality shows and sitcoms. Every time a decent series comes out that is wholesome and fit for families, it ends up getting cancelled. We wished the network could find a way to continue telling this story.
An excellent show, that told an important story with excellent actors, set design, and costuming. It brought to life an important piece of our history as a nation. We need more shows like this and less of the televised trash that iOS poisoning the broadcast landscape.
