There’s good news and bad news for fans of The Big C. The Showtime TV series is coming back for a fourth but final season. David Nevins, President of Entertainment at Showtime, called the final season “a special limited run series consisting of four one-hour installments.”
In delivering the news to attendees at the current TCA press tour, Nevins noted that the show “has always required a delicate touch and I can’t think of three more talented and skillful people than Darlene Hunt, Jenny Bicks and the brilliant Laura Linney to handle this tricky subject matter.”
Season three of The Big C finished airing on June 17th. After two seasons of 13 episodes each, Showtime gave Big C just a 10 installment order for season three. That move led some to suspect that the end was near.
Of the third season ending, executive producer Elizabeth Bick recently told THR, “We would not be happy if this is the ending… I think we owe our audience and ourselves the chance to see this through. We still have a lot more story to tell.”
There’s no word yet on when the shortened fourth season will air.
Will Cathy (Laura Linney) succumb to her illness for the end of the show? Nevins shared, “I wouldn’t assume anything about how its going to end… They have a very interesting, novel and form-breaking way to handle where the show is going.”
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that The Big C is ending or do you think it’s time for the show to end? How do you think the series should conclude?
[…] In late July, Showtime revealed that they were ending The Big C with an abreviated fourth season. They’ve now announced that the drama will end with four one-hour episodes called The Big C: hereafter. […]
Love the show and love the cast and really love Laura Linney’s acting for sure…..
I for one do not think this show should end because we are at a time in history when CANCER is taking our loved ones. It brings awarness and also sheds light on what some people might be going through in life with cancer!!!!…I hope that someone has a change of heart and continues the show even if its to help those who are dealing with the big c themselfs!!!!

What a crock
It is time. This season’s ending was just stupid. Seasons 1 and 2 were fantastic but it is like they ran out of stuff to write this season so they just threw a bunch of crap together. It was just disappointing. However, I do have to say that Laura Linney was amazing with the less than stellar material she had to work with. The same is true for Oliver Platt.
good showtime did the right thing, its a shame they couldn’t do the same for united states of Tarra.
