Shortly after NBC cancelled The Event, it was reported that talks were underway to try to find a new home for the drama. There was apparently interest from some cable and digital outlets and possibly even Netflix. Executive producer Steve Stark noted that work to save the show had the full support of the Universal Media Studios.
Today, Deadline reported that talks were underway with Syfy (also owned by NBC-Universal) to continue The Event as a mini-series — if the financial details could be worked out. If that performed well enough, the cable channel could launch another season of the drama. If that’s true, it sounds like the mini-series wouldn’t completely finish the story so fans would potentially be left with unanswered questions yet again.
Now, a message from SyFy’s Twitter account seems to shoot down that possibility. The tweet from a senior executive at the cable channel reads, “To answer some questions I’ve been getting, at this time we have no plans to pick up The Event.”
What do you think? Could The Event still find a home at Syfy or elsewhere? Or, realistically, do you think the show is dead?

Since I love the show, it was cancelled and probably won’t be picked up by anyone.
YES!! Please bring it back .It was a great show and I would love to see it continued so we can know what happens. The finale left everything “up in the air”. It doesn’t really matter which network picks it up as long as it does get picked up.
I think it should be picked up at all costs. How about the CW; or Netflix; or Bravo? It could be the new Lost or 24. It is a GEM and should not be thrown in the trash! So many of us can’t wait to see what happens next…..don’t leave us hanging, please!
Yes, we want to see the Event on Syfy. Watched it every week, great writing and acting, please don’t leave us hanging, as so many shows have done in the past. From what I’ve been reading, V could be cancelled. We’ve lost so many good sci-gi programs already. Falling Skies on TNT has great promise, the sci-fi genre should be encouraged, great shows where writing is outside the box, anything can happen type tv. So much on tv now is downright boring, little imagination or intriguing stories. Give us shows worth PVRing, something to really look forward to, give us… Read more »
While I would be happy to see The Event picked-up by another network, thank goodness it wasn’t done by sci-fi. (I still can’t call it by the new name.) Every time I think that network can’t go farther down hill, it somehow manages to do so.
With the exception of shows on pay movie channels, I’ve gotten to the point that I don’t watch any plot-driven show until it has been renewed for the next season to prevent being left with a non-resolved cliffhanger due to cancellation.
finally Americans have produced a good show for the first time in many years. But cancelling the show just shows how intellectually behind they are.
I stopped watching because of falling behind and the fact that it had been on the bubble for a while. If it does get some sort of mini-series or full season, I would definitely catch up on it. I just did not want to get too invested in a show like this and have it ripped out from under me. Plus, if this does happen and the ratings are good enough, maybe Syfy will take on more cancelled genre shows from its sister network (NBC). Who knows, maybe they could even take on genre shows from other networks that get… Read more »
Let’s see: change the name from SciFi to SyFy, cancel any and everything called Stargate, and foist Caprica on us. I doubt the Execs at SciFi have enough combined gray matter to fill a coffee cup, much less have enough to pickup science fiction series like The Event or V.
Save “V” instead — not that I expect Syfy, owned by NBC, would, but ah well.
If any series deserves to be saved, it’s The Event”!
The show has been a **** since episode 4. I for one am glad it got cancelled.
They’ll try to save this, but not SGU?! Hey, Syfy, I cancelled my satellite service that included your channel! Wanna guess why? Crappy decisions by so-called execs! I’m done with t.v.! The product is obsolete by the standards of what is being pumped out. Cheap unscripted drivel.
Bring it Back!
There hasn’t been a show that I’ve enjoyed watching this much since LOST. It keeps you guessing all the time. It’s just got better and better. The problem today is that people are so obsessed with reality TV, there’s no room for intelligent shows anymore.
Speak for yourself, Jeremy, which you apparently did. I have not watched a network series in years until The Event. I will miss it and feel jilted that we will not know what happens. So, back to watching the cable channels. Forget the network shows. I will watch those that have some legs and merit in reruns.
BRING IT BACK!
Just let it die!!!
^^^ yes your correct Jeremy, instead of spending money on garbage bring back stargate 🙁
Bring back Stargate, I agree.
