Shortly after NBC cancelled The Event, it was reported that talks were underway to try to find a new home for the drama. There was apparently interest from some cable and digital outlets and possibly even Netflix. Executive producer Steve Stark noted that work to save the show had the full support of the Universal Media Studios.
Today, Deadline reported that talks were underway with Syfy (also owned by NBC-Universal) to continue The Event as a mini-series — if the financial details could be worked out. If that performed well enough, the cable channel could launch another season of the drama. If that’s true, it sounds like the mini-series wouldn’t completely finish the story so fans would potentially be left with unanswered questions yet again.
Now, a message from SyFy’s Twitter account seems to shoot down that possibility. The tweet from a senior executive at the cable channel reads, “To answer some questions I’ve been getting, at this time we have no plans to pick up The Event.”
What do you think? Could The Event still find a home at Syfy or elsewhere? Or, realistically, do you think the show is dead?

The Event, Flash Forward, SG Universe, Caprica, V.. They all suffer in the writing. These are all SCI-FI shows, why persist in trying to make them into love stories. Writers wait until they get a pink slip to through in any serious actions or answer any plot twist; or in the case of Lost, not answer.
I so enjoyed all of these shows and feel let down again. Wow the Event is gone, Nothing left on TV worth watching. I am sure they will find another legal, police, lawyer, crime scene show to put on the air.
Why would SyFy pick it up, it isn’t wrestling or Ghost Hunters or some other drivel they seem to want more of…
There is no reason to cancel a show with so many unanswered questions and answers….Im very interested to see how Christina tells her President husband who she lied to previously that she indeed is not completely “human” , a very moving scene is her face when her “home” planet appears in the sky…she seems happy and tells her son when asked “what is it” she answers “HOME” ,of course many comparisons will be made w V. V was bad from the get go -its finale left many questions unanswered but not many cared, I for one had high hopes for… Read more »
Any truth to the rumor that their new slogan is “SyFy Channel: for people that don’t actually like actual SiFi”?
Finally they showed started getting much better and NBC turns around and cancelling it. This is the third show on their network that they cancelled that I really liked (Undercovers and Chase the other two) and after seeing the line-up they have in store for next season, I will not be watching any NBC shows at all. You have lost yourself a viewer NBC!!!
I have to agree about the excess of dinocrocs, dinosharks, megaoctopus, and megapirahna! The actors, like Tiffany, are pretty second (or third) rate! But I like “Warehouse 13” and I LOVE “Haven”! Since NBC is too inept to recognize that “The Event” has gotten really good and deserves a second season to showcase that, I really hope that Syfy decides that they will pick it up after all! It would be a smart decision on their part, and even though it would cost more to produce it, they could sell ad space to higher paying companies! I would totally watch!
Please some cable network pick this show up, my goodness it is great!!
it will never be saved same as flashforward, it is all about the money not quality.
stupid americans !
btw ross – your brain is the twin of green euglena.
With V cancelled – THE EVENT must be saved – it surely has the merits in win back a new audience
Bring back Caprica instead. Execs at Syfy are morons.
Seems like SyFy is determined to make itself extinct. It’s providing us a steady diet of third rate shows (Eureka, Sanctuary, Star Gate Universe, Warehouse 13) and ninth rate cheesy CGI monster of the week movies (just how many giant snakes and crocodiles must we endure?). I’d rather see Flash Forward, The Event, and re-runs of Doctor Who (both the “originals” and the new series). Surely the money they are wasting on the above tripe could be used for that instead! Thank heaven for public libraries and Amazon.com. (And books: Dresden Files, Lord of Light, Inferno and Escape From Hell,… Read more »
Please bring it back…
Please pass on, don’t save The Event!
Seems like SyFi would be a good home. It helped having a DVR so I didn’t miss any episodes but I think there is a good storyline here to continue.
Yes – Please bring it back.
