Bones has been a quiet hit for FOX but the same can’t be said for its spin-off, The Finder. FOX has now cancelled the low-rated series after one season.
The Finder is a procedural series that revolves around a man (Geoff Stults) with the extraordinary ability to help people find the unfindable. Other castmembers include Maddie Hasson, Mercedes Masohn, and Michael Clarke Duncan.
The spin-off debuted on January 12th to a disappointing 1.7 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.50 million total viewers. It was fourth in its Thursday night timeslot right out of the gate and lost nearly 30% of the all-important demo from its compatible lead-in, Bones. This was not a good start.

Things picked up a bit in the following weeks, thanks in large part to the show having FOX’s blockbuster American Idol as a lead-in. Still, the numbers weren’t as high as they should have been.
After seven weeks on the air, FOX put Finder on hiatus and then moved it to Friday nights, giving its Thursday timeslot to Touch. If The Finder could maintain a healthy percentage of its viewers after the switch, it would likely garner a renewal.
But that didn’t happen and Finder’s numbers dropped like a rock. In its first Friday airing, the freshman series attracted a 1.1 demo rating — an episode-to-episode loss of 53% — with just 4.03 million viewers. The numbers for future episodes fluctuated a bit but didn’t really get any more encouraging. The network could do just as well or better by running cheaper reality programming.
The season finale of The Finder is set to air this Friday night and there won’t be any episodes after that. Hopefully the producers saw the writing on the wall early enough and won’t leave viewers hanging with any major unresolved storylines.
What do you think? What went wrong with this show? Why do you think The Finder failed to attract a bigger audience? Was cancelling the series the right decision? How would you have fixed it?
Typical of Fox to move shows, mess up the schedule and then cancel them because nobody watches. Buy a clue Fox, you have so few show that a family can watch without feeling dirly, it figures you idiots would cancel the very few good ones you still have.
The FINDER was the best show on tv. Please bring back an intelligent show with a different angle and great characters. It is the #1 show at our home.
Okay, the finder was one of my favorite, I had it set to record every time it came on! I liked watching reruns, they were enjoyable to watch again! I just found out that they cancelled it and I am so angry! They left so many things unexplained at the end!
I really want them to bring it up again, I got so many of my friends into this show, and now we are all disappointed!
cant believe they cancelled the finder , I love it my heart is broken
i cant belive it i love this show my heart is broken
I was in shock to learn that the finder had been canceled. I think the time slot for the show was all wrong. I work, and the show would be coming on when I would get home, and would have to record the show. I would like to see the finder make a come back!!
Seriously its like firefly all over again. Ok so you want an opinion stop moving shows around in midseason. I never watched the touch it looked predictable and boring. I’m selective about new shows that I watch exspecially with fox I think everyone is you kill them before we get a chance to get into them. No one wants to start a new show when they know the network is known for nothing but canceling shows. Just leave my Tuesday lineup alone that will probably be the only night I will watch.
i was extremely upset when i realized they were not making anymore episodes of the finder. I never watch live TV, i dont have the time. But once a week i sit back and watch whatever is on Hulu, the finder was one of my subscribtions i looked forward to the most. I am so surprised they cancelled it.
Fox just keeps ticking me off. They did the same thing with “Firefly”, and look at what happened. The fan base was there so much so that a movie was made. “The Finder” had great potential, but they (the Fox execs) always make poor decisions. I think they for the most part revel in being a channel that caters to only sophomoric humor and doesn’t figure intelligent humor in their shows is worth giving to their audiences. Granted, it was odd and quirky, but it was well written and had a great cast. And, of course, Fox had to cancel… Read more »
I watch it on Hulu regularly. I am disappointed that it is being cancelled.
I can’t believe they would cancel this show the way they did. We are so angry and disappointed on all the story lines being left up in the air like that. My husband and I taped the shows so we could watch them when we wanted to as we found them to be funny and entertaining.
We also watch Bones but found that we were looking forward to the Finder more often.
It is really sad and we hope someone picks it up as we certainly would like to continue watching it and the story lines.
I WANT THE FINDER BACK. I’m going into Finder withdrawl.
The Finder had a lot of potential. More and better advertisement wound have helped the ratings. I hope another network picks it up, they were developing some good story lines.
I enjoyed The Finder, it was agood change from “Law & Order; CSI; etc”. You should give it a chance, it was not on long enough to get a large audience.
I love the show but never watched it on the fox network. I watched it all on Hulu, it sucks that it got cancelled 🙁
