Bones has been a quiet hit for FOX but the same can’t be said for its spin-off, The Finder. FOX has now cancelled the low-rated series after one season.
The Finder is a procedural series that revolves around a man (Geoff Stults) with the extraordinary ability to help people find the unfindable. Other castmembers include Maddie Hasson, Mercedes Masohn, and Michael Clarke Duncan.
The spin-off debuted on January 12th to a disappointing 1.7 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.50 million total viewers. It was fourth in its Thursday night timeslot right out of the gate and lost nearly 30% of the all-important demo from its compatible lead-in, Bones. This was not a good start.

Things picked up a bit in the following weeks, thanks in large part to the show having FOX’s blockbuster American Idol as a lead-in. Still, the numbers weren’t as high as they should have been.
After seven weeks on the air, FOX put Finder on hiatus and then moved it to Friday nights, giving its Thursday timeslot to Touch. If The Finder could maintain a healthy percentage of its viewers after the switch, it would likely garner a renewal.
But that didn’t happen and Finder’s numbers dropped like a rock. In its first Friday airing, the freshman series attracted a 1.1 demo rating — an episode-to-episode loss of 53% — with just 4.03 million viewers. The numbers for future episodes fluctuated a bit but didn’t really get any more encouraging. The network could do just as well or better by running cheaper reality programming.
The season finale of The Finder is set to air this Friday night and there won’t be any episodes after that. Hopefully the producers saw the writing on the wall early enough and won’t leave viewers hanging with any major unresolved storylines.
What do you think? What went wrong with this show? Why do you think The Finder failed to attract a bigger audience? Was cancelling the series the right decision? How would you have fixed it?
Sometimes the people who run Fox are idiots. Reality TV shows suck and I refuse to watch any of them. At least The Finder was entertaining and I wanted to see how Willa would get out of the arranged marriage and how everything would come out.
Totally bummed there is not a season 2! I do not watch cable TV, I found it on Netflix. It was a great show. There was not a lot of bad language and not a lot of adult content, hard to find shows like this one. #showhole
I saw it on Netflix before and while i was watching it had something different then any other shows I’ve watched, it had a mysterious showing and a puzzling feeling that other shows didn’t quite get me, it also had imagination that you don’t see in reality or on tv shows that often. So yes I i say put it back on because even people don’t watch it on air they can find it on Netflix and try to look for it on TV. PLUS if It’s only gonna have 13 or more episodes try having it on a Monday… Read more »
We just recently found “The Finder” on NetFlix and really enjoyed watching the show. It is so sad to learn of Michael Clarke Duncan’s passing. I wish the writers of the show could come up with a way of doing a memorial episode to honor Mr. Duncan and to continue the series. So disappointed that there was only one season.
I found this show on netflix with my best friend and we love it so much. We were always laughing and entertained, we were super upset when we found that there was no season 2. As well as the fact it left it with sucha cliffhanger.
I agree, great entertainment
Super sad that the finder will have no season 2 I absolutely loved the show and hated how it ended and not being able to find out what happens next . It’s such a cliffhanger and I wish they will start a season 2 someday , it would be a miracle if they did . The show made me laugh like no other show did .
Why should any of us watch any tv show at all. If we spend our time watching this so called art on tv only to have greedy ******** rip it away without even summing it up …… Why waste part of our lives on channels that doesn’t have the decency to at least run 1 show to properly end it. I want a refund.
Really enjoyed “finding” this show on Netflix. Well written, acting was very good,
and no gratuitous sex or violence. Just regular, normal people. Great show. Too
bad it was not advertised or pushed. Obvious no one really was on board to make
it last.
I admit that I stumbled on this show on Netflix. I loved it and am really sorry that it ended after one season. I have to agree with the all the other positive comments. It is refreshing to see acting that incorporates humor so effortlessly and writing that is willing to be goofy as well as compelling. So very sorry it’s over.
I found the series on Netflix and like it a lot. I am disappointed that there is only one season.
I don’t remember it when it was on the air but saw it on Nexflix and loved it from the 1st show. I found the cast blended very nicely together. I am tired of all of the “dark” programs that are out there always on the negative, new cop show you know just how the character are going to be just like all the others. Why are things always so violent and people have no values or morals. The sex is just sleazy sex, tied of every female having to have her boobs fall out of her top and her… Read more »
This show was great, ine of the best finds. If losers watch mainstream crap, we the more discriminate viewers know quslity. We slso know true entertainment. Bring it back as a netflix series. Yes unfortunately one character will be missing, but the rest were great.
Whatever a hole stopped the show should be strung up by his oor her balls just because one of the actors die, I’m sorry the man died but he wasn’t the whole show so give Walter a new partner and get on with the show. it’s been three years and you can only wait so long after a death to get on with life the six years thing was so nineteenth century and I believe this is the early twenty first century.
I love thus shiw and would love to see the charactwrs come back in some way.
Finder was an awesome show. Would love to see it come back
