Last May, fans of The CW’s sitcom, The Game, were upset to learn that the sitcom had been cancelled after three seasons on the air. Though there was some resolution in the last episode, it was hardly satisfying enough for devoted viewers. The web has recently been abuzz with news that the show is coming back but can you believe it?
Created by Mara Brock Akil, The Game began as a spin-off of the long-running comedy, Girlfriends. The series centers around a first year medical student (Tia Mowry) who chooses to follow her pro-football boyfriend (Pooch Hall) to San Diego. Others in the cast include Brittany Daniel, Coby Bell, Wendy Raquel Robinson, Hosea Chanchez, and Barry Floyd.
Even before the show was cancelled by the CW, there was talk about the possibility of Black Entertainment Television (BET) picking up the show for a fourth year. The cable-channel has been playing the sitcom repeats and the show fits in with their other programming.
In July, Mowry told TV Guide, “[BET chairman and CEO] Debra Lee is trying everything and anything to make this happen. The Game gets higher ratings than BET’s original programming, and we’ve heard there would be a huge marketing campaign. So I personally believe the show would be taken to another level.”

Unfortunately, there’s been little word of any real progress since then. Last week, rumors started circulating that a deal had been struck between BET and the show’s studio, CBS Television. Unfortunately, they turned out to be false.
Last night, Mowry put the rumors to rest. Via her Twitter account, she wrote, “I am so sorry to tell you this, this whole THE GAME thing getting picked up is NOT true! After talking to agents lawyers etc it is not true.” A deal may still happen but, for the moment, there isn’t one.
When or if a new deal is made, it remains to be seen how it would work. The contracts for the cast and creatives have lapsed so new ones would have to be negotiated. Because BET has less money to spend, they’d likely have to take pay cuts.
On top of that, some of those involved with the show have also moved on to other projects and may not be available. Hall is working on CBS’ new sitcom Accidentally on Purpose, Mowry has several projects in the works, and Akil is part of ABC’s new Cougar Town comedy with Courteney Cox Arquette.

Please pick this show back up. this show was actually giving me hope for my break up i love this show so much i cry every time i watch the merwin. I really need this show to come back on the air, and bet or whoever to stop tripping, and pick the show up so i can find out what happens as the happy merwin couple is married, and that baby not really being his. so all the actors need to just come back and get this show back on the air the fans love this show
PLEASE KEEP THE GAME ON THE AIR…I CAN SEE THIS SHOW ON FOR YEARS TO COME. MAYBE THAT’S WHY THE CW KICKED IT OFF THEIR NETWORK. LETS FACE IT, THIS SHOW IS GREAT AND HAS LOTS OF POTENTIAL. WHO GIVES A CRAP ABOUT GOSSIP GIRL, WHEN YOU HAVE MUCH MORE REALISTIC SHOWS SUCH AS THE GAME ON AIR!!! CAN ANYONE SAY HATERS!!!
We are a big fan of the GAME and so is almost everyone in the united states. I feel it is humorous and educational on some shows and it touched home on others. I feel that taking this show off the air would be a mistake to America!! So please really think hard and please think right and give them another season and if you have to take tiny and toya off and frankie and neffe cause thats just a mess….lol
Yes it would still be worth it and we want more of The Game, so BET please pick up The Game and bring it back to tv. I love The Game and its a great show! Please bring The Game back!
Yes… I so love “The Game” and they really need to come back with the fourth season!! It ended whereas it left all of us in suspense… I hope it comes back because with all the drama that was left of the show… I am certain they can create interestn episodes… no doubt that show could survive… I can not believe they are even goin thru this </3

Did anyone ever see the pilot episode? Originally, there was a different Derwin and Kelly. That just didn’t work, and they obviously realized it. Different characters would not make me or a lot of other people happy. I don’t understand why it isn’t on prime time TV where they could pay the actors more money instead of a pay cut. If bet brings back the game, it has 2 b with the original cast. Its not gonna b the same w/o them. CW made a dumb decision 2 cancel the show.

IIIIIIIIIIII Just adore this show.Before when it first came out I did Know what it was about until BET had the re runs of it and i watched season and fell Head over hilss in love with it.So i went on u tube to watch the rest of the seasons and it only went to season 3 and it seouisly stopped at a bad time. YEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSS they should got ot a season 8 I love ther game and they bringing those wack white shows and cancelling all the good black show like The game bringing some melrose place and 90210 we had them for yrs back in the 90’s let them go!!!
I agree with most comments about “The Game”. It makes NO SENSE why they cancelled this show. It looks like CW is going in a completely different direction and The Game obviously didnt fit (which another topic that I’d rather not go into). Sadly, I don’t think anyone will pick it up especially if the actors get invovled with other projects that would conflict.
