Be sure to tune in to The Oprah Winfrey Show today for a special treat. The queen of daytime television is reuniting the cast of The Mary Tyler Moore Show.
Winfrey has frequently said that Mary Tyler Moore’s Mary Richards character was an inspiration to her while working as a young newswoman in the 1970s. Back on February 10, 1997, Moore made a surprise visit to the Oprah show for an episode that was devoted to Winfrey’s favorite women. When Moore appeared on stage, the host was utterly speechless.
Like Winfrey’s reunion of the kids from The Cosby Show a couple months ago, the MTM reunion will be something special. All of the surviving castmembers will be on-hand — Mary Tyler Moore, Ed Asner, Gavin MacLeod, Valerie Harper, Betty White, Cloris Leachman, Valerie Harper, and Georgia Engel. And, what’s more, the Oprah show’s crew have recreated the sets of both the WJM newsroom and Mary’s iconic apartment. The actors talk about the show, toast the memory of the late-great Ted Knight, and recreate the final episode hug (with Winfrey included).
Check your local TV listings for the exact showtime. If you miss it during the day, local affiliates sometimes rerun Oprah shows in the early morning hours weekdays and on weekends. Stay tuned!
