Today certainly wasn’t a good day for fans of The Unit. CBS cancelled the show after four seasons on the air. For producers of the series however, today’s dark cloud also had a silver lining.
Though there won’t be any new episodes featuring Dennis Haysbert, Regina Taylor, Robert Patrick, Scott Foley and company, the show will return to the airwaves next year.
The show’s studio, 20th Century TV, announced today that the military drama has been sold in syndication. According to the Hollywood Reporter, The Unit has been cleared in 56% of the country, including Fox and CBS stations. It’s sold in all 15 of the top markets, including New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia, and Dallas.
Because only 69 episodes have been produced, the stations are likely to run episodes only once or twice a week. While several series have been saved recently because of potential syndication profits, there’s seemingly no interest in continuing The Unit. This likely stems from the fact that hour-long dramas aren’t as popular in syndication as half-hour sitcoms.
The series launches into syndication beginning in the Fall of 2010.

Cancelling The Unit is a big mistake. It is a great show about something that is real in today’s world. Haysbert played an excellant part, as real as the sun. The rest of the cast were great suppoting cast. They were all equal but Dennis was the leader in the show. MASAH lasted eleven or twelve years and I think given a decent chance The Unit would also.
AWWW! How totally disappointing. I was so into this show. Great actors. The story lines were cool. Sorry that CBS didn’t see the value in this show.
CBS was the last frontier for good shows. NNNNNNNNNNNoooooooooooooooomore reality or sitcoms please. Looks like there are no more frontiers. We loved The Unit.
CBS what are you thinking? The Unit was one of the best shows you had going. Give us a break with the Reality shows. What a BIG dissappointment. Bring back The Unit!
i really enjoyed the Unit and am very disappointed to find that it has been cancelled. Would really recommend bringing it back.
I suppose CBS will replace The Unit with yet ANOTHER reality show that appeals to those viewers with an IQ equal to that of an ashtray filled with bottle caps. CBS, who are you hiring to make these decisions?
GOOD BYE CBS,hope u rot in hell with your **** viewing left on your shite channel take that mentalist shite with you too………………………..
you guys are really good at loosing viewers(thats seems to be your strongest point)
BYE BYE.
alls these guys think about is womans day tv thats why the 30mins is more popular than 1 hour long episodes of something that to be quite frank is 1million times better than 30mins of complete shite. look at most of the really good series that are out but hey they dont care whats good and whats crap as long as the daytime is covered for all those bored housewifes. use your heads for a change and listen to your viewers, what have we got to watch now!!!!! NOTHING because the money is spent on crap telly. look at “Jericho” the… Read more »
We don’t watch a lot of prime time TV anymore, mainly because there isn’t anything worth watching. The one show that our whole family as well as co-workers all watched was THE UNIT. After seeing the reviews and votes on what shows should or should not have been canceled. I really think CBS made a mistake in canceling the UNIT. This was one of the best shows on TV too bad it has been canceled.
It’s CBS worst decision ever for cancelling the Unit, just like cancelling Jericho. The Unit had good story line on both fronts, the lives of the men on special missions and the lives of the women at home. These crappy reality like Survivor or Big Brother sucks. No more good action drama out there. Give it a good time slot and the ratings would of gone up. Going back to DVD’s and cable. Let network TV go to the crapper. I’m done with them
I know I’ll never watch CBS again. I looked forward to watching this show every week. I’m sick of watching the 50 different cop shows like CSI Miami-russia, all the variations of law and order, and NCIS. The Unit was a great show, and was a refreshing change.
So you don’t care what people over 55 think or what they want to watch. Just keep on putting that crap on that people with out a brain can understand. Your evening news is in last place . Whats next
I am absolutely livid! CBS canceled the best show on TV. Bring the Unit Back ASAP! No one is watching Medium or the other dumb reality shows on CBS. My entire family is outraged. You don’t cancel a show that millions of people are watching. You don’t have to be 55 or older to enjoy the show! My family & I are much younger and love The Unit. BRING IT BACK, BRING IT BACK, BRING IT BACK!!!!!
I am sick! No really, I became sick as soon as I read about the cancellation. I will be one of those who call and write to Cofused Backward Saps. I would like to believe it is just a dream. How could they do that? I was patiently waiting – giving them time to get started. Now I am just livid. Everybody let’s get their attention. CALL – WRITE – CALL – WRITE- CALL – WRITE…
I am disappointed that CBS decided to cancel The Unit. My husband and I really loved the show and looked forward to it every week. I just found out when I was searching the internet it had been cancelled. Please reconsider!
