Today certainly wasn’t a good day for fans of The Unit. CBS cancelled the show after four seasons on the air. For producers of the series however, today’s dark cloud also had a silver lining.
Though there won’t be any new episodes featuring Dennis Haysbert, Regina Taylor, Robert Patrick, Scott Foley and company, the show will return to the airwaves next year.
The show’s studio, 20th Century TV, announced today that the military drama has been sold in syndication. According to the Hollywood Reporter, The Unit has been cleared in 56% of the country, including Fox and CBS stations. It’s sold in all 15 of the top markets, including New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia, and Dallas.
Because only 69 episodes have been produced, the stations are likely to run episodes only once or twice a week. While several series have been saved recently because of potential syndication profits, there’s seemingly no interest in continuing The Unit. This likely stems from the fact that hour-long dramas aren’t as popular in syndication as half-hour sitcoms.
The series launches into syndication beginning in the Fall of 2010.

I think it was a HUGE mistake to cancel The Unit. It was a show that showed us the inner workings of a brach of the millitary that risked their lives to save fellow commrades and to stop people that want to hurt the world! What other show does that? It is a shame that reality tv is taking over and unbelieveable shows like this are getting cancelled. CBS doesn’t know what they are loosing. Why not look at the quality of the show instead of just the ratings all the time because sometimes the show teaches us as The… Read more »
The Unit was a great show with a combination of good actors, good story lines, and great theme music. We should petition to move the show to NBC,or ABC and have the Suits listen to the fans once and for all.
The suits don’t know a great show from bananas. The Unit was a great show.
It really kept you on the edge of your seat and never failed to ENTERTAIN!!!! Apparently the people making the decisions don’t want us to be entertained as you can tell by the junk that they do show. Please, Please, bring The Unit back. It was great!!!
They never promoted this show at all. It was the only show on the big three networks that I never missed. Oh well, at least there’s 24.
I wanted to cry when I heard this show was canceled. CBS needs to fire those in charge of which shows continue and which do not…. Somebody evidently has it backwards……
Damn. I love this show. I’m still waiting for that reporter chick to cash in her “Get out of Hell” Card……
I LOVE THE SHOW THE UNIT….WHY DO SHOWS ALWAYS SEEM TO THINK THEY KNOW IT ALL….WHY DON’T THEY LISTEN TO THERE FANS ONCE AN AWHILE…….THEY HAVE LET GO OF AN AWSOME SHOW….WHO IN THE _ _ _ _ IS RUNNING CBS….WELL WHOEVER THEY ARE THERE ARE LACKING UPSTAIRS…MAYBE THERE SHORT A LOBE OR 2!!! DO U THINK!!!!
I can’t belive cbs did this. This is the only show I never missed, no matter what.
The Unit was a great show. A rare combination of good actors, good story lines, and a solid fan base. The unfortunate circumstance is that it got hurt by the writers’ strike. That event killed so many shows with great potential. In the end the “unit” will live in syndication, but that does not seem fair for a true drama.
I will never understand the lunacy of engaging us with the show for 4 seasons, the show that still had a growing audience and then you…………axe it? Are you serious? Forget CBS – this bites
THIS IS THE BEST SHOW EVER. IM NOT WATCHING CBS ANYMORE
I liked the show up until the point where they killed Sgt. 1st Class Hector Williams, “Hammerhead”, and then replaced him with a female, and then there was the absolute fantasy-oriented episode, in which Mac “Dirtdiver” Gerhaardt was injurred and Jonas and the rest of the team search for a “mystical” spear, which according to legend, would heal his wounds.
What were they thinking? This was supposed to be a realistic show, and they turned into a fantasy-filled Saturday morning cartoon like G.I.Joe.
I will miss this show. I Tevo it because of work. I cant wait to come and see it.. Til now.. Man CBS has the line up for me.. I like alot of thier stuff but this one I didn’t see coming.. I really don’t think we need another Three and a half men or something like that..Plus at the 10 pm time slot who’s watching 1/2 sitcoms. I hope its not political bowing to the radical left who hate war and well presure companies into bowing to thier Ideas.. Can you say wussies … Maybe its Obama’s policy to… Read more »
I agree with Pal 100%! It is a great show! Don’t tell me it’s cancelled to make room for yet another inane reality show!! (eyes rolling)
