Today certainly wasn’t a good day for fans of The Unit. CBS cancelled the show after four seasons on the air. For producers of the series however, today’s dark cloud also had a silver lining.
Though there won’t be any new episodes featuring Dennis Haysbert, Regina Taylor, Robert Patrick, Scott Foley and company, the show will return to the airwaves next year.
The show’s studio, 20th Century TV, announced today that the military drama has been sold in syndication. According to the Hollywood Reporter, The Unit has been cleared in 56% of the country, including Fox and CBS stations. It’s sold in all 15 of the top markets, including New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia, and Dallas.
Because only 69 episodes have been produced, the stations are likely to run episodes only once or twice a week. While several series have been saved recently because of potential syndication profits, there’s seemingly no interest in continuing The Unit. This likely stems from the fact that hour-long dramas aren’t as popular in syndication as half-hour sitcoms.
The series launches into syndication beginning in the Fall of 2010.

I can hardly believe CBS has cancelled the Unit. It was one of the better shows on the network. Last season most of the shows I watched, truly most, were on CBS. I see this season that is not the case. It seems to me this is their mistake.
I won’t support the other crap, the 8 CSIs, the 6 NCSI, whatever, that junk is being over done, saturation overload! The Unit was a good show…. CBS is stupid. I won’t watch any CBS this season in protest. THAT is the only thing they will notice, boycott them & tell them why….
They kept shifting the show around in awkward time slots. They should have let it be. CBS: Central Broadcasting Sucks.
I believe that they cancelled this show. They wouldn’t recognize quality if it bit them you know where. They also cancelled Jericho and Moonlight. The worse thing you can do on CBS is to actually present a good story. I think CBS stands for Committed to Broadcasting
S***.
I agree with Micheal… Why cancel one of the best shows CBS has on television? That is just plain crazy!
There are only 3 shows on CBS that I watch, The Unit, NCIS, and NCIS Los Angles. That’s it! Bring back a great show. Your yearly ratings don’t include the thousands, rather the hundreds of thousand of viewers that watch The Unit. CBS reconsider your actions.
The unit was the only show our entire family regularly watched together. We had to tape it because it was on so late. My boys are 10,9,8, and 5. I can not believe the one show we all enjoyed and looked forward to ech week is cancelled. This was a quality show with a lot of substance to it.
I too am so disappointed to see that “The Unit” was cancelled. What a loss of an excellent show. I agree with previous comments that so much of network television has become a sea of lowbrow, mindless nonsense; “The Unit” was a refreshing antithesis to that. It’s a shame the network didn’t at least try airing the show in a different time slot before resorting to cancellation. If CBS keeps canceling its few intelligent shows, there will be little left to watch and they will lose all of us as viewers.
I was very disappointed to see that the Unit was cancelled. It was the only show worth watching. This year’s line-up on all the major stations is the PITS!!!! TRASH as far as I’m concerned. I certainly will not waste my time watching any of it. Interesting after taking the poll to see if I wanted the show to return—the results of the poll were 98% of us did want it to return. Did you get the message CBS?
What a dumb move…There were 3 reasons why i tune into CBS..
CSI, Big Bang theory and The Unit…Now im down to two…I have 3 words for ya CBS….Stupid, stupid and stupid !!!…
This super sucks, that was definately my favorite show.
I agree with Michael… with all the crazy shows that air. One show that made people want and wait on each week is CANCELLED.. this is a bad move CBS… It shoould have been given a more prim time if anything.
The Unit being cancelled stinks. I am a vietnam veteran and liked the show a great deal. Obviously, some of the stuff they did was not realistic but the acting and drama was good. I looked forward to it each week. I guess another stupid decision by a network is nothing new. God Bless our current combat troops.
I will miss the show on Sunday night. No reason now to ever watch CBS
i ******* hate cbs, i will never watch another program on your ****** network. i loved that show, and as a person who only has time to watch a few hours a week of tv, (during the week) this was one show i watched religiously. i hope you go bankrupt you douche bags
Are you kidding me!!! I’m just learning that my favorite evening show was canceled……this is horrible. The show was phenomenal to sat the least, such a shame and poor judgement! PLEASE, PLEASE bring back my unit!
