Even though Starz just premiered their new TV series, The White Queen, we already know there won’t be a second season.
Based on Philippa Gregory’s bestselling historical novel series The Cousin’s War, The White Queen tells the story of three very different women as they attempt to scheme, manipulate and seduce their way onto the English throne. The cast includes Max Irons, James Frain, Rebecca Ferguson, Janet McTeer, Ben Lamb, Amanda Hale, Tom McKay, Aneurin Barnard, David Oakes, Faye Marsay, and Eleanor Tomlinson.
The show is co-financed by the BBC in the United Kingdom and Starz here in the states. The 10-part series began airing on BBC1 in June and completed its run last Sunday night.
According to Broadcast Now, the BBC has maintained that The White Queen was intended to run just one season. However, Gregory had hinted that there were hopes to continue the drama via an adaptation of The White Princess. That novel follows the story of Elizabeth of York who went on to marry Henry VII, the first Tudor King.
It now appears that a continuation won’t be happening. A BBC spokesperson said, “The White Queen will not be returning, but it is important to note that it was never actually conceived as a returnable series.”

I just binge-watched the 1st season, waiting for the 2nd. So very sad that it is not coming back. It was great!

One of the BEST Series BBC has ever done great actors great story line And you’re going to leave everyone hanging. Seriously? Or is it because it loosely correct around history.

I think “cancelled”is kind of a harsh word to use here – the original books of the series, which is what the show is based on, all wrapped up at the same point the show ended. To be fair to the writers of the show, which first aired in 2013, there were no other books to base a Season 2 screenplay off of. Since then, Gregory has published “The White Princess”, and last fall published “The King’s Curse.” Maybe if she writes one more, the screenwriters for “The White Queen” series will have enough material to write another season. Why would they even aire it then? It makes me not want to watch another Starz series. Just makes no sense to show one season.
Just watched the whole season very good needs to have another season.
I loved the books and now that the season one is over I was hoping the show would continue with the rest of the books. So sad it will not.

YES! It looks like somebody listened for once to the viewers. Starz is developing a sequel based on The White Princess by Phillipa Gregory, but not in collaboration with the BBC. Looks like the BBC is pretty short sighted, and Starz has the vision. Hope they can keep the same cast. From what I read online it’s supposed to premiere April 6th. Guess I’ll have to talk my husband into getting Starz back on our channel line up with Dish!
I’m really upset that there isn’t a season 2 or 3 or 4… I mean this is so GOOD. Why not continue it? Please please please bring back a season 2! I loved this show so much. The costumes, sets, acting, was all FANTASTIC.
