Even though Starz just premiered their new TV series, The White Queen, we already know there won’t be a second season.
Based on Philippa Gregory’s bestselling historical novel series The Cousin’s War, The White Queen tells the story of three very different women as they attempt to scheme, manipulate and seduce their way onto the English throne. The cast includes Max Irons, James Frain, Rebecca Ferguson, Janet McTeer, Ben Lamb, Amanda Hale, Tom McKay, Aneurin Barnard, David Oakes, Faye Marsay, and Eleanor Tomlinson.
The show is co-financed by the BBC in the United Kingdom and Starz here in the states. The 10-part series began airing on BBC1 in June and completed its run last Sunday night.
According to Broadcast Now, the BBC has maintained that The White Queen was intended to run just one season. However, Gregory had hinted that there were hopes to continue the drama via an adaptation of The White Princess. That novel follows the story of Elizabeth of York who went on to marry Henry VII, the first Tudor King.
It now appears that a continuation won’t be happening. A BBC spokesperson said, “The White Queen will not be returning, but it is important to note that it was never actually conceived as a returnable series.”
What do you think? Are you sorry that The White Queen won’t be continuing in some form? Are you glad that the story was designed to wrap after 10 episodes?
I am disappointed to hear there is no series 2. I was ready to get starz just watch the next episode. This has kept in suspense with every episode and it enjoyed watching.
That is a bad decision. It was a great season and has such potential to run for several more. It’s so much better than Wolf Hall, and some others that will probably continue on. Who made such a terrible decision? Someone needs to be fired.
I just finished the season and am hungry for more. Starz needs to keep shows like this or I won’t keep my subscription. More, please.
Very sad. Loved this mini-series. I was so looking forward to Season 2.
ditto to all the comments WTF. you left us all hanging. another great show that ends disappointing all the viewers.
VERY disappointed. I don’t get why they don’t continue the story. It’s very popular.
I am angry about this news. When I watched the last episode, you couldn’t have told me that there would not be a season two. Elizabeth slept with King Richard before the war, he lost the war, and she is to marry King Tudor. There is a major story line to be completed. This is CRAZY!!
This is beyond disappointing! It is really a shame. I have a million questions and they all begin with WHY!!?? Such a great show…great show!
What are you thinking BBC and STARZ? Too lazy to make another season? BIG mistake! HBO. Now’s your chance. Take it and bring it back.
You will already have a waiting audience.
What a BIG disappointment. I didn’t realize when I was watching this awesome series that it was going to end after one season. After seeing episode 10 I proceeded to pull up season 2 and was shocked that it was cancelled!!! So much carp on tv and you pull off this one? Wake up BBC!!! Or why doesn’t HBO jump in and take it on. Then Starz and BBC will regret what they have done. Pure idiots!!

Might be if demand is large
Definitely a shame this series will not be continued! We looked forward to each show. So much better than other shows available on TV these days!
I wonder why they didn’t do a Season 2………….maybe they were told not to……
Maybe another Company can do it in America
NOOOO! Bring it back.
Really, no season 2? What the hell BBC…what the hell?
Just discovered the show on amazon prime. I think it is a great show. I was so hooked I watched all 10 episodes straight. Now I find out there is no season 2 I feel like crying. This is such an amazing story, great show, wonderful acting and full of history. Why not have a season 2 especially when so many people like the show and long for a season 2? What a shame. Such disappointment. I am really upset about this now. I hope somehow the decision is reconsidered and we have a season 2.
