Even though Starz just premiered their new TV series, The White Queen, we already know there won’t be a second season.
Based on Philippa Gregory’s bestselling historical novel series The Cousin’s War, The White Queen tells the story of three very different women as they attempt to scheme, manipulate and seduce their way onto the English throne. The cast includes Max Irons, James Frain, Rebecca Ferguson, Janet McTeer, Ben Lamb, Amanda Hale, Tom McKay, Aneurin Barnard, David Oakes, Faye Marsay, and Eleanor Tomlinson.
The show is co-financed by the BBC in the United Kingdom and Starz here in the states. The 10-part series began airing on BBC1 in June and completed its run last Sunday night.
According to Broadcast Now, the BBC has maintained that The White Queen was intended to run just one season. However, Gregory had hinted that there were hopes to continue the drama via an adaptation of The White Princess. That novel follows the story of Elizabeth of York who went on to marry Henry VII, the first Tudor King.
It now appears that a continuation won’t be happening. A BBC spokesperson said, “The White Queen will not be returning, but it is important to note that it was never actually conceived as a returnable series.”
What do you think? Are you sorry that The White Queen won’t be continuing in some form? Are you glad that the story was designed to wrap after 10 episodes?
I am so sorry not to be able to enjoy another season.
I was very sorry to hear that as I was looking forward to a second season.
They are now working on another season; the author of the books has announced she is working on the script!
Really enjoyed the first season – sad I did not research this, as I would not have watched the first season (I was looking forward to the second season).
So few Starz series, it’s hardly worth paying for. Since there will be no White Queen second year I will discontinue my subscription after season two of the Highlander is over.
Starz has greenlit “The White Princess,” a sequel series to the premium cabler’s Rebecca Ferguson-led miniseries “The White Queen,” which aired in 2013.
Hailing from Company Pictures and adapted from Philippa Gregory’s bestselling novel of the same name, “The White Princess” tells the story of England’s War of the Roses from the perspective of the women. The 8-episode limited series drama is currently in pre-production to air in 2017.
Phillipa Gregory, author of the White Queen, has just announced they are currently writing the script for a second season!

The BBC and Starz should continue the series. It was will acted and the production was outstanding. It is a great story and I want more please.
The White Queen was so well done, another season or three would be excellent. The actors, the story, the sets were all wonderful.
I’m very disappointed. It was poorly ended if it was meant to be one season. Please bring it back.
I am very disappointed it is not continuing. If it wasn’t meant to continue it should not have ended in the way it did on a cliff hanger.
This could really be a multi season show. Please bring it back for a second season to wrap it up properly.
Please bring on sequel 2!!!!!
Please bring it back we love it here
