To little surprise, CBS has pulled Three Rivers from the Sunday night schedule, effective immediately. Will the show be back? Has it been cancelled?
Three Rivers follows a group of dedicated doctors and medical staffers who help those in need of organ transplants. The series stars Alex O’Loughlin, Katherine Moennig, Daniel Henney, Justina Machado, Christopher Hanke, Amber Clayton, and Alfre Woodard.
The medical drama got off to a slow start in the ratings back in early October. Unfortunately, the numbers only got worse as the weeks wore on and it became a likely candidate for early cancellation.
To CBS’ credit, the network has been patient with the series and has kept it on the air. Two weeks ago, the network tried switching timeslots with Cold Case. While the veteran crime drama benefited from the time change and attracted more viewers, Three Rivers did not.
Three Rivers has now been pulled from the Sunday night schedule. As expected, Cold Case will slip into the earlier timeslot and repeats of various crime dramas will take over at 10pm.
A CBS spokesperson has said that Three Rivers’ fate has not yet been decided but the network has not ordered any additional installments beyond the initial 13 episodes.
Eight episodes of the drama have been aired, leaving five on the shelf. CBS will likely burn them off either on Saturdays or during the summer months but, unless the execs have a major change of heart, Three Rivers is essentially cancelled.
What do you think? What went wrong with Three Rivers? Is Sunday night football to blame for the show’s failure to attract more viewers or was the show flawed?

Totally agree. Football throws everything off. I loved the show and DVR’d it every week….with the news so I didn’t miss it. Give it a chance after football is done.
We loved Three Rivers why take off one of the best shows on CBS please bring it back
i love the show three rivers i work 2nd shift and the ony show i dont have to watch on demand three rives i loved this show so much i want it back on the air. i knw football effects it bacause i like to watch both and i know i can get thee riverson demand soi want it back o the air
I like Three Rivers and was DVRing it on Sunday nights; but, was wondering why I haven’t seen it lately. I think this is a really good show, but needs a better day and time slot. Please put it back on TV. I also thought Moonlight was a good show.
Three rivers is a GREAT show. Please put it back on!! The network keeps fooling around with a night’s program lineup and before you know it, we are stuck with nothing but football and reality shows. Three Rivers is like ER was; enjoyable to watch and the series keeps your interest througout the entire hour. Take Three Rivers off and the result will be another dull night of television!!!
I hope they don’t cancel this show. I think football messes up a lot of shows. I love football, but even to DVR my shows on Sunday night was a mess. I had to DVR the news. And I hate it that Cold Case keeps getting moved later and later. Put Cold Case back on at 8 like it used to be and Three Rivers on at 9. Get rid of Amazing Race or put it on at 10. Let it be the one that is dumped because of football. And networks can’t understand why ratings aren’t as high for… Read more »
I normally do not like doctor shows but i love Alex O’Loughlin He is amazing! I looked forward to sunday night every week since i first saw a commerical for this show and i enjoyed watching it. it was very touching and sweet i bout cried a couple of times during the show. It should not have been cancelled. I also loved Moonlight and its gone too. I think we should bring it back as well. Please CBS give three rivers another try. Can’t you see so many people love it. I think as long as some people still love… Read more »
Once again the minute there is a show that shows a different perspective it is cancelled without a word. I’m tired of all the “reality” shows and finally enjoyed the Sunday evening line up. The least the TV executives could do is let all the episodes play out. I kept missing the taping of it due to the Amazing Race and the Football games running late. There never seems to be a choice of what one wants to watch anymore and if there is finally a choice, it is cancelled.
We should get a petition for Moonlight to come back!!!!
I’m very unhappy that the show has not been back. I like all the touching story and my daughter has been excited when we found out that Alex was going to be the main character. We love him in Moonlight also. It was also nice to see that the show’s main concern were the patients and not the doctors. But, it was nice to see little by little how we found out more about the awesome doctors the show had.
Network programming executives have always been idiots, and even more so in recent years. Three Rivers is a very touching drama, and I missed it as soon as it was not on the schedule. But I agree with one of the other posters – they need to round up the rest of the Moonlight cast and get that show back in production. If people are nuts about Twilight and all the other vampire stuff, then they need to give Mick St. John another chance!
i think that it was a wonderful touching show and should be returned to tv. maybe on a better night. but should not be canceled.
I’m glad Three Rivers is over. Maybe now Alex can resurrect Moonlight with all the hype on vampires now it would definitely succeed. Please bring Moonlight back.
I LOVED “Three Rivers”!!! It was one of the main reasons I watched CBS, instead of cable stations. I am tired of getting really attached to a show, to have CBS cancel them. I loved having another medical drama on tv again. I’m afraid to get attached to new shows anymore, because just when I do, they cancel them. For example: Eastwick(ABC), Trauma(NBC), and now Three Rivers(CBS).
Very disappointed that Three Rivers has been canceled. It was one show my husband looked forward to viewing each Sunday night. Please give it another try!
