Last May, NBC announced that it would be adding two new medical shows. Trauma would begin airing in the Fall and Mercy would come in early 2010. That plan got messed up when production on Parenthood, another new show, was delayed, and Mercy was brought in early to take its place.
With two new medical dramas on the network, many suspected there was going to be one too many. A few months later, one is struggling to survive and the other has been effectively cancelled.
Trauma revolves around a group of first responder paramedics in San Francisco. The high-action series is populated by an ensemble cast that includes Derek Luke, Cliff Curtis, Anastasia Griffith, Kevin Rankin, Aimee Garcia, Billy Lush, Jamey Sheridan, and Taylor Kinney.
The drama has had problems attracting viewers from the beginning. Its premiere only attracted 6.68 million viewers and a 2.2/5 rating/share of the 18-49 demographic. The following week, the numbers sank to 5.36 million and a 1.7/4. The numbers have been rising slowly since then but not by much. Monday’s episode hit a post-premiere high of 5.77 million and a 1.9/5, putting the show in fourth place for the timeslot.
To no surprise, NBC has decided not to order additional episodes of Trauma. While all 13 episodes of the series will be aired, the network won’t be ordering any more. It’s unknown if the cast and crew will be able to give the show any closure by the last episode.
What do you think? Are you disappointed that Trauma is ending or should it have been cancelled awhile ago?
UPDATE: Trauma returning with new episodes.

As a paramedic for both a fire department and ambulance service I am glad to see this show off the air. The show is horrible, is highly inaccurate and the public should not perceive what happens in the show as real life.
Trauma should have never aired! The acting was ridiculous and the episodes are stuck in 2005. There’s nothing current or exciting about this show. Third Watch was so much better.
Mercy, while I expected it to be just as terrible, has a great cast (aside from james LeGros). They have great chemistry and I think that’s what has helped Mercy to survive.
Trauma is a fantastic show. Cancelling quality programming is the reason why NBC is at the bottom of the ratings ladder. Stick with your old man Jay Leno NBC. While he brings in the bacon, you will continue to sink to the bottom with no hope of a lifeline. I no longer watch anything on NBC but The Biggest Loser. That’s all you have now.
GET RID OF JAY LENO AND KEEP TRAUMA. I REALLY LIKE THIS SHOW.
my wife really enjoyed the show very much. she couldn’t wait till monday nights and was glued to the tv. she says she will really miss it.
As a real life Paramedic I have been disapointed in this show. Some of the medical procedures done in the show were highly questionable in the situations presented. and Showing a Paramedic going protocol like they did would have got a real paramedic suspended on the spot. any time I have had to go “off book” I always clear with online medical control.
I liked Trauma far more than i do Mercy but the female leads in both shows seriously bug. I read its one of the most expensive shows to produce so i’m sure that was a major factor.
The show was bad. That simple. they bought Peter Berg instead of a GOOD solid concept. This was not “ER” on wheels. get rid of Zucker.he doesn’t have a clue.
“Trauma” isn’t brilliant, but it has slowly been getting better. NBC is just the wrong network for new dramas. Both shows might have more of a chance on other networks still using their 10:00 slot for scripted TV.
Well, NBC does it again, a quality show not given a chance to survive. NBC did it with Surface and Kidnapped, now with Trauma. I can see now why NBC is in last place among the Big 3 networks, it is run by a bunch of dopes.
“Trauma” was fun, but if it’s between the two new medical shows, I vastly prefer the character-driven and realistic “Mercy.” “Trauma” is a lot of fun action but no real substance or theme.

I really do like this show, it kind of reminds me of Third Watch. I hope they change their mind.
ugh! Another show I loved getting cancelled… Mercy is lame!
I think it’s a great program and the program Mercy should go. Mercy seems to be very boring by adding too much humor with health
