Last May, NBC announced that it would be adding two new medical shows. Trauma would begin airing in the Fall and Mercy would come in early 2010. That plan got messed up when production on Parenthood, another new show, was delayed, and Mercy was brought in early to take its place.
With two new medical dramas on the network, many suspected there was going to be one too many. A few months later, one is struggling to survive and the other has been effectively cancelled.
Trauma revolves around a group of first responder paramedics in San Francisco. The high-action series is populated by an ensemble cast that includes Derek Luke, Cliff Curtis, Anastasia Griffith, Kevin Rankin, Aimee Garcia, Billy Lush, Jamey Sheridan, and Taylor Kinney.
The drama has had problems attracting viewers from the beginning. Its premiere only attracted 6.68 million viewers and a 2.2/5 rating/share of the 18-49 demographic. The following week, the numbers sank to 5.36 million and a 1.7/4. The numbers have been rising slowly since then but not by much. Monday’s episode hit a post-premiere high of 5.77 million and a 1.9/5, putting the show in fourth place for the timeslot.
To no surprise, NBC has decided not to order additional episodes of Trauma. While all 13 episodes of the series will be aired, the network won’t be ordering any more. It’s unknown if the cast and crew will be able to give the show any closure by the last episode.
What do you think? Are you disappointed that Trauma is ending or should it have been cancelled awhile ago?
UPDATE: Trauma returning with new episodes.

This is the second show that was really great that they cancelled. The first one was life and then now Trauma…. Well if they truly cancel trauma then no more NBC for me
Overall, I think it’s a highly entertaining show. Great cast, good story lines. I do look forward to watching it each week, and will miss it when it’s gone. If the writers would leave behind the blantant, far-left agenda, it probably would’ve seen much higher viewership numbers.
The only good new show on NBC and they cancel it??? NBC has a death wish.
Maybe one of the wiser networks will pick it up like other good cancelled NBC shows.
Trauma is a great show. I’ve watched every episode. I especially like Cliff Curtis’ character – I’m a fellow kiwi. NBC should have been privileged to get a film actor with his resume/ability on board. Unfortunately, NBC also has a history of canceling shows prematurely because of ratings. Funny they never once came over to my place to ask what I’m watching or want to watch.
I can’t believe that NBC is cancelling another great show again. This is truly upsetting and just discourages me from watching anything NBC has to offer or bring in…..it’s a shame to cancel great shows like Trauma…..you get drawn and then they pull you out…..What’s going on here?

I have watched the TV Show Trauma since it started and I love it. Now you want to cancelled the series for probably a stupid show. Wow, the rating a low right now but I’m sure once others start watching it, it would bring the ratings up. You’re not giving the show a chance to make it. The ratings is all that concerns NBC. What a joke!!!!!
Why did they have to cancel a great show like this? They didnt give it a chance. It was just starting to get good. Love “Rabbit”!
I am really disappointed by not suprised by NBC cancelling one of thier best shows.
They like being losers.
Trauma is one of the best shows going. Its exciting and fresh. Keeps you watching and waiting for the next show.
I’m not sure why you would cancel such a great show. It’s not like you have a lot of good ones out there.
NBC should reconcider thier decision on this one.
This sucks. Mercy is a waste, I watched one episode and couldn’t get into it. I do not have the slightest curiousity about what has happened since I watched last. Trauma on the other hand is great, it’s jumping and entertaining and the characters grab you.
I am very disappointed that it’s being cancelled. This is just like Life, why is NBC making a habit of cancelling shows that are great and keeping ones that suck around.
NBC has totally lost it!First they cancel a great show like Southland, now Trauma, whats next? How about some of those junk reality shows?Trauma is Wonderful TV program, what is the use of watching anything new on NBC if they are just going to cancel it ?FOX and ABC are blowing NBC out of the water !
I cannot take it any more. NBC continues to cancel EVERY SINGLE good show they air – at least, every show I become invested in). “The Listener” was another good EMT show they cancelled recently. “The Philanthropist” was great, I thought. Now “Trauma” has been axed? Are they INSANE? Now I am convinced that NBC has got some imposter [from another nework] advising them on what shows to cut or keep around. I would like to speak to just ONE PERSON in that 18-49 demographic who was surveyed… One – if they can even produce ONE. I am 28, and… Read more »
finally a great show-WHY CANCEL??
Typical NBC manuver, very DISAPPOINTED . Just like LIFE which is a good intelligent
& very enjoyable story lines got cancelled!! NBC SUCKS!!!
[…] Trauma: NBC Essentially Cancels TV Show, No Season Two […]
I’ve seen both Mercy and Trauma, and although Mercy somewhat keeps me slightly interested since it deals with nurses, Trauma is the only show out of the two that keeps me on my toes and my heart racing. If anyone has seen the episode 6, that episode kept me locked on and wanting more. I agree that at first it was a slow start, but give the show a chance. Its getting better, SO MUCH better. I really like this show.
