Last May, NBC announced that it would be adding two new medical shows. Trauma would begin airing in the Fall and Mercy would come in early 2010. That plan got messed up when production on Parenthood, another new show, was delayed, and Mercy was brought in early to take its place.
With two new medical dramas on the network, many suspected there was going to be one too many. A few months later, one is struggling to survive and the other has been effectively cancelled.
Trauma revolves around a group of first responder paramedics in San Francisco. The high-action series is populated by an ensemble cast that includes Derek Luke, Cliff Curtis, Anastasia Griffith, Kevin Rankin, Aimee Garcia, Billy Lush, Jamey Sheridan, and Taylor Kinney.
The drama has had problems attracting viewers from the beginning. Its premiere only attracted 6.68 million viewers and a 2.2/5 rating/share of the 18-49 demographic. The following week, the numbers sank to 5.36 million and a 1.7/4. The numbers have been rising slowly since then but not by much. Monday’s episode hit a post-premiere high of 5.77 million and a 1.9/5, putting the show in fourth place for the timeslot.
To no surprise, NBC has decided not to order additional episodes of Trauma. While all 13 episodes of the series will be aired, the network won’t be ordering any more. It’s unknown if the cast and crew will be able to give the show any closure by the last episode.
What do you think? Are you disappointed that Trauma is ending or should it have been cancelled awhile ago?
UPDATE: Trauma returning with new episodes.

INCREDIBLY UNHAPPY about the show ending!!! This has been my favorite out of all the new shows that premiered this season.
I am hooked on this show. I hate to see it go. Guess that means there’s nothing for me to watch next season.
I am sad it is getting cancelled. I thought it was just average at first, but it has been growing on me each week. 🙁 Bring it back NBC! Give it a chance for goodness sake!
pissed!!
OMG… to the 626 person you are really stupid and i hope your show gets cancelled because you clearly don’t know what greatness is!!!!!!!!!!
What a big mistake to cancel TRAUMA. Right now it’s one of the best if not the best show on TV! Great bunch of actors and
something really different from all the other crap out there. (Like Chuck for one)
I am so glad that NBC cancelled this show. It’s about time they do something right.
I am so glad they cancelled this show. NBC finally did something right.
Please do not cancel!! Have been taping since the series started and finally just started watching them yesterday and watched 4 in a row!! Great Show!!
It’s pretty unfair that this show had no time to really shine. A lot of shows start out pretty slow. You can’t expect them all to be hits from the start. One of my all time favorite shows, Bones, isn’t number 1 but it’s in its 5th season and going strong. It started off slow and now its grown tremendously. NBC didn’t really promote this show either. I found out about it through Hulu because it was one of the top shows watched. Trauma has a great plot and it’s new. There are a lot of doctor shows, but there… Read more »
I am pissed that teh show is being canceled because I think it is the best show right now. Maybe if they didn’t show it on monday nights when football is on then maybe more people would watch it. This is my favorite show and i wouldn’t miss it for the world. this is a different type of medical show and NBC needs to give it a chance. MERCY should be the one cancelled if anything. Being a EMT is a very important job and not showed enough in medical shows. NBC please don’t let Trauma go flat line!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am so disappointed to that Trauma is canceled. It is a great show. The network should rethink there decision. Don’t cancel trauma!!!!!!
we enjoy trauma, why do you think that 2 medical shows are too many, we also watch all of the csi shows, we have to dvr on our dish network dvr receiver and record all the shows, and may not watch when exactly aired, but we watch them.
with the newly found info that rabbit (cliff curtis) is from New Zealand, we will be watching more intently. my husband also is from new zealand, and i lived there 5 years.
we enjoy trauma, and hope you reconsider and keep the show going. it is great.
I LOVE this show! Finally, something decent to watch on a Monday night. Please, NBC, dump that stupid show “Chuck” and keep “Trauma”.
im disappointed that it’s canceled, it was an action pack, good show! i looked forward to monday nights
