Last May, NBC announced that it would be adding two new medical shows. Trauma would begin airing in the Fall and Mercy would come in early 2010. That plan got messed up when production on Parenthood, another new show, was delayed, and Mercy was brought in early to take its place.
With two new medical dramas on the network, many suspected there was going to be one too many. A few months later, one is struggling to survive and the other has been effectively cancelled.
Trauma revolves around a group of first responder paramedics in San Francisco. The high-action series is populated by an ensemble cast that includes Derek Luke, Cliff Curtis, Anastasia Griffith, Kevin Rankin, Aimee Garcia, Billy Lush, Jamey Sheridan, and Taylor Kinney.
The drama has had problems attracting viewers from the beginning. Its premiere only attracted 6.68 million viewers and a 2.2/5 rating/share of the 18-49 demographic. The following week, the numbers sank to 5.36 million and a 1.7/4. The numbers have been rising slowly since then but not by much. Monday’s episode hit a post-premiere high of 5.77 million and a 1.9/5, putting the show in fourth place for the timeslot.
To no surprise, NBC has decided not to order additional episodes of Trauma. While all 13 episodes of the series will be aired, the network won’t be ordering any more. It’s unknown if the cast and crew will be able to give the show any closure by the last episode.
What do you think? Are you disappointed that Trauma is ending or should it have been cancelled awhile ago?
UPDATE: Trauma returning with new episodes.

I am very upset that trauma is being cancelled. I love watching that show. They need to keep that show on television for another season because it is a awsome show to watch. The should get rid of all the other things that are on tv that is not good for people to watch. Please do not CANCELLED TRAUMA.
This show is a ‘what-not-to-do’ example for my medics teachers. Paramedics treating hemothoraces and cardiac tamponades, never securing the scene, holding sloppy c-spine, getting GCSs wrong? Yet it was so bad, I watched it to see what they’d do wrong next. Dramatic and engaging, yes. But an insult to professional paramedics.
I am so sad. I looked forward to this show every week. It is one of my favorites. Some person said that it wasn’t 100% on the medical part….so what, not one show is. I love the show and the plot. I watch both “Trauma” and “Mercy” and “Trauma” is by far the best. I can’t believe they have canceled it already without giving it a chance. Hopefully somehow they will change their minds!
This is the only show I look forward to every week!
It is really too bad that NBC cancelled TRAUMA, one of the best.
Great actors and story line, very disappointed.
We are traumatized!!!!
I think it is a great decision, this show was so terrible, the lines were so ridiculous. How the hell did the female helicopter Paramedic not know what an NPA is? It’s basics! The male helicopter guy was the worst one. He had a line…where he said if he lets it out, what if he cant let it back in? I was rolling on the floor, who writes these lines?
Come on give it more time. I love Trauma I look forward to Monday nights just to watch it. Mondays are bad enough at least I had Trauma to watch.
I hate to see this show end!!!!!! I love this show now I’ll be left watching nothing, thanks for NBC. I am both sad an upset.
I truly disappointed. It was the ONLY show I watch on NBC and couldn’t wait…
ABC has the best shows, and I’m surprised that Trauma isn’t one of them… I’m just hoping someone else will pick it up…
Ugh. This makes me so upset!! If NBC dumps Trauma, I dump NBC… I looked forward to EVERY Monday night purely for this show!! As the daughter of a Fire-Medic, and a Nurse in training, I loved it from the start! MUCH better than Mercy! Mercy is trying to be Grey’s with all the messing around with every male/female counterpart (I stop watching Grey’s because it became more about the who is sleeping with who and not the medical aspect)… Mercy will NEVER be ER… Trauma was the show that had me riveted just like ER did… waiting for what… Read more »
I’m hating it, but since nbc makes bad decisions it’s not surprising at all. I have to stop watching new shows they put out again. I only started watching this because I was told by a lot of people it was good. And what happens? It gets canceled, which is the reason I stopped watching new shows on nbc in the first place.
I can’t believe this show is being cancelled!! I work in EMS and this show is the first show that has been pretty true to form. I REALLY hope NBC changes its mind!
Disappointed, hope NBC changes its mind, this show is great.
why would cancel a show this great? Lots of action, great cast, and hot rescue chicks. This is just what the doctor ordered.
Upset really love the show. I think they should rethink not continuing.
