Fans of NBC’s Trauma series have had a season of ups and downs. The TV show got off to a poor start in the ratings and then was essentially cancelled when NBC decided not to purchase any episodes beyond the initial 13 installments. Later, because the peacock network needed additional original programming, they kept it in production and ordered an additional seven episodes.
Unfortunately, the show’s ratings got worse and worse and NBC later cut the final episode order to 18 installments. Last night’s was the last. Looking at the ratings, it’s hard to imagine that NBC would consider ordering another season of Trauma.
Still, one of the show’s star’s, Cliff Curtis (Rabbit), remains hopeful that Trauma will be back for year two and refused to let the show’s prospects influence his work. He recently spoke to USAWeekend and here’s a portion of that conversation…
Have you got any word on if Trauma will get a second season?
We’re still in the mix despite all reports of being cancelled. I’m still contracted till May 17, which will be the day I find out what I’m doing. They haven’t cut me loose to go and take first position on any other projects. We’re all watching.Would your first choice be to have another year of Rabbit?
I love Rabbit as a character, he’s fantastic. We can get better – we’ve come a long way and we started off with a very broad concept: Basically taking a female-skewed audience of a genre show, a medical show, and skewing it toward the male audience. The pendulum swang a little too far in that direction, we’re pulling it back the other way, and we’re getting really good. That must have been pretty disheartening to hear the rumors in the fall of Trauma being cancelled and left for dead.
I skipped over all of that because I didn’t want to focus on it. That is not going to help me enjoy my work and is not going to help enjoy my life. Rabbit as a character is somebody who despite all of his flaws and all the tragedy happening around him, he’s just a fun guy in a lot of ways. He’s not the brightest guy at times – he’s got room to grow in terms of how he approaches life, and that’s what keeps me interested in him as an actor. But I just really love his enthusiasm for life. I really admire people who are clear about what they love, and they just go for it. That’s really helped me as an actor to think, “You know, I’m gonna approach it with the same attitude.” People can say what they say. I’m loving my job, loving my work, love the people around me, and I’m going to come to work every day and have the best time I can.
What do you think? Do you think Trauma has a chance at returning? If it is cancelled, would you like to see Curtis (or even “Rabbit”) to land on another series?

I can’t believe Trauma will not be back. How do you cancel the only good original medical show on tv. it’s got a great cast and great writers. PLEASE order more episodes
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, DO NOT CANCELL TRAUMA. WHEN IT FIRST CAME ON IN THE FALL ALONG WITH MERCY, I SOON FOUND OUT THERE WAS ONLY ONE SHOW OF THE TWO TO WATCH AND THAT WAS TRAUMA. AS A MATTER OF FACT IT IS THE ONLY SHOW ON TV TO WATCH. AFTER IT GOES OFF ON MONDAY NIGHT, I’M WAITING ALL WEEK FOR THE NEXT EPISODE. I EVEN WATCH THEM OVER AGAIN ON THE PC. WHY DO THEY ALWAYS CANCEL THE GREAT SHOWS AND LEAVE ON THE CRAP. I WILL BE DEVISTATED IF THERE IS NOW A SEASON 2. I SOOOOO… Read more »
I think Trauma is currently the BEST drama show on TV. We have never missed an episode and I find the show to be very interesting. You do not want to miss a second of it. My favorite TV show was Third Watch and they ended that after 6 seasons (could have gone on for way more). SO PLEASE DONT TAKE THIS SHOW AWAY TOO. Give it time to grow and advertise more. If you actually put commercials on tv, showing the next episodes or what the show is about viewers might actually know it exist. Dancing with the stars,… Read more »
I think trauma is a great show. And I believe NBC put it on at the wrong time. It needs to be on at 10pm Monday or Wednesday with a lead in from one of the Law & Order shows. These networks kill good shows before they have a chance or set them up to fail. Then end up standing behind shows that are 10 times worse that end up cancealed a season later. I think NBCs track record lately has proven their decision making sucks!
Please do not cancel Trauma! It’s the best show on TV since ER! These characters have come to life for all the fans over season 1 and the show has SO much room to grow and be great. It’s unfair it was put up against 24 and Dancing with the Stars and if they would give it another chance I am sure it would be a hit. With all rumors of cancellation it is still gaining a fanbase!
Save Trauma!
I’m sad that Trauma is over, devastated, but I’m glad that the show introduced (reintroduced) me to Cliff Curtis, Kevin Rankin, Aimee Garcia & Taylor Kinney I’d seen work previously from Derek, Anastasia & Scottie. I hope but think it’s unlikely that Trauma will see a 2nd Season, but i definitely want to see more of Cliff. It’s a shame the gang won’t be together anymore, I thought they were an amazing cast.
Let’s see if I can make this clear KEEP TRAUMA!!! There are not too many shows that my husband will actually take the time to watch that we both like – WE BOTH LOVE THIS SHOW!! The characters are dynamic and real (except for Doc Diana) and Tyler makes a fantastic twist in the midst of the medical drama! Please keep TRAUMA and give Rabbit a “normal” loving relationship.
Trauma is the only “medical” program I watch. I love the action and character interfacing. Please do not cancel.
I want to see Trauma back next season. NBC was too quick to cancel this show. The characters on the show are great! Bring back Trauma! If NBC doesn’t another network should be smart and pick them up QUICK!!!!!!
I really enjoyed Trauma. Both my husband and I are in emergency medicine. While some of the shows are not “right on” medicinally speaking. It is a show. We enjoy it greatly. We never missed an episode. Really, NBC can’t figure out why their in last place in the ratings when they keep cutting shows like this? I wrote to them when they cut it the first time and I’ll write to them again. The actors in the show are good. There is a good mix, not to over the top. Easy to follow and to believe. Well, if it… Read more »
Why won’t NBC stop making mistakes?? Trauma finally brought us into the world of paramedics, and it has all the elements of a truly successful drama. Couple that with a fan base that has been fighting for this show since day 1, and you have yourself a second season. It’s a shame the network won’t listen to the audience….
One of my favorite shows…We all look forward to watching this exciting show. Love the characters, love the show!!!!!!!
I would love love love to see Cliff Curtis in another TV show. He is such a versatile actor, and I would really miss his acting abilities every week if he just did movies.
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE…..KEEP “TRAUMA” The sad thing is that Trauma has a large viewing audience, but because of busy lives, people going to school, working, taking care of families there just isnt enough time to sit down and watch a program at the actual time it airs and thanks to DVR’s we can record the program and watch it at a more appropriate time for our schedules….this messes up the rating numbers….this show probably has great ratings if there was a way to capture them through DVR’s and other recordings. It is to bad that programs life expectancy is based… Read more »
I really loved this show, much more than “Mercy,” and hope it gets picked up either by NBC or a cable outlet, the way Southland was rescued by TNT. I’ve been a big fan of Cliff Curtis since seeing him in the New Zealand film “Once Were Warriors,” and I’m sure he will find another job regardless.
