Fans of NBC’s Trauma series have had a season of ups and downs. The TV show got off to a poor start in the ratings and then was essentially cancelled when NBC decided not to purchase any episodes beyond the initial 13 installments. Later, because the peacock network needed additional original programming, they kept it in production and ordered an additional seven episodes.
Unfortunately, the show’s ratings got worse and worse and NBC later cut the final episode order to 18 installments. Last night’s was the last. Looking at the ratings, it’s hard to imagine that NBC would consider ordering another season of Trauma.
Still, one of the show’s star’s, Cliff Curtis (Rabbit), remains hopeful that Trauma will be back for year two and refused to let the show’s prospects influence his work. He recently spoke to USAWeekend and here’s a portion of that conversation…
Have you got any word on if Trauma will get a second season?
We’re still in the mix despite all reports of being cancelled. I’m still contracted till May 17, which will be the day I find out what I’m doing. They haven’t cut me loose to go and take first position on any other projects. We’re all watching.Would your first choice be to have another year of Rabbit?
I love Rabbit as a character, he’s fantastic. We can get better – we’ve come a long way and we started off with a very broad concept: Basically taking a female-skewed audience of a genre show, a medical show, and skewing it toward the male audience. The pendulum swang a little too far in that direction, we’re pulling it back the other way, and we’re getting really good. That must have been pretty disheartening to hear the rumors in the fall of Trauma being cancelled and left for dead.
I skipped over all of that because I didn’t want to focus on it. That is not going to help me enjoy my work and is not going to help enjoy my life. Rabbit as a character is somebody who despite all of his flaws and all the tragedy happening around him, he’s just a fun guy in a lot of ways. He’s not the brightest guy at times – he’s got room to grow in terms of how he approaches life, and that’s what keeps me interested in him as an actor. But I just really love his enthusiasm for life. I really admire people who are clear about what they love, and they just go for it. That’s really helped me as an actor to think, “You know, I’m gonna approach it with the same attitude.” People can say what they say. I’m loving my job, loving my work, love the people around me, and I’m going to come to work every day and have the best time I can.
What do you think? Do you think Trauma has a chance at returning? If it is cancelled, would you like to see Curtis (or even “Rabbit”) to land on another series?

OOPS! Another comment – how can Networks cancel quality shows and keep cr@p like Wife Swap on the air?????
My husband and I both L O V E Trauma. We sure hope NBC or some other network keeps it going. It’s so nice to see Cliff Curtis playing someone other than a terrorist/bad guy like he’s usually stuck doing. We watch it every time it’s on. I think it had a bad time slot when it started and didn’t have a chance to build a following. Networks need to remember that the The West Wing didn’t do very well it’s first season, but then it took off the second season and went gang-busters for 7 or 8 seasons. Networks… Read more »
I really hope the show will be back! Have not missed a show all season, it’s my favorite.
Keep this show going. As said previously, it is the best NON-REALITY show to watch! If NBC doesn’t pick it up, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE someone else pick it up.
My wife and I really love this show! Hopefully they keep it or it gets picked up by another network. Keep it! Keep it! Keep it!
I hope that if Trauma is cancelled another network will pick it up. If not, then I hope Cliff Curtis finds another show. He is a fine actor and should win an emmy for his performances in this series.
It has been confirmed by an inside source of Trauma that Cliff has been submitted for contention to have a place as an Emmy nominee, but he has not been officially nominated yet. Cross your fingers in hopes that he will receive an actual nomination
With all the action and intense drama, Trauma blows Miami Medical out of the water in my opinion. Please, give life back to the series… at least for a second season.
Man it stinks that they are cancelling Trauma now . That is the second of my favorite shows . I loved Eastwick too. Not much else i’ll be watching I guess.
Trauma was a great show hope they bring it back.just conside the time and day. Monday night football is big issue on modays. I never miss a show I love it is real. PLEASE BRING TRAUMA BACK
I hope it has a chance! I love the show, and Cliff Curtis is amazing in it.
my husband and i just watched the final three episodes of the SEASON (we will not even consider cancellation) that we had saved on the dvr. we have been die-hard fans since day one and would follow it to any network smart enough to save it. nbc has made many poor decisions in the past – i hope canceling this show won’t be another one.
I think Trauma was a great show. It kept me excited about what i do for a living.
The show may have been a little off the true nature of the job but it was starting to show what Paramedics go through in their lives. Low Pay, Intense unsafe work, and the personal sacrifices given each day to be their for those in need. Paramedics are the largest unappreciated and forgotten EMS workers out there.
please nbc or any other network, u have to pick up this show, because it deserves a chance. it was real and true and amazingly easy to love if you just give it a chance. It deserves better!!!
I would love to see Trauma return for another season. It’s one of the few good non-reality shows left to watch on TV. I’d watch it over Gray’s, Mercy and a lot of other shows that are not nearly as well done. Both my husband and I have not missed an episode.
i agree with roberta maybe tnt will pick it up like they did with southland. i love the show and i hope it comes back for season 2
