Fans of NBC’s Trauma series have had a season of ups and downs. The TV show got off to a poor start in the ratings and then was essentially cancelled when NBC decided not to purchase any episodes beyond the initial 13 installments. Later, because the peacock network needed additional original programming, they kept it in production and ordered an additional seven episodes.
Unfortunately, the show’s ratings got worse and worse and NBC later cut the final episode order to 18 installments. Last night’s was the last. Looking at the ratings, it’s hard to imagine that NBC would consider ordering another season of Trauma.
Still, one of the show’s star’s, Cliff Curtis (Rabbit), remains hopeful that Trauma will be back for year two and refused to let the show’s prospects influence his work. He recently spoke to USAWeekend and here’s a portion of that conversation…
Have you got any word on if Trauma will get a second season?
We’re still in the mix despite all reports of being cancelled. I’m still contracted till May 17, which will be the day I find out what I’m doing. They haven’t cut me loose to go and take first position on any other projects. We’re all watching.Would your first choice be to have another year of Rabbit?
I love Rabbit as a character, he’s fantastic. We can get better – we’ve come a long way and we started off with a very broad concept: Basically taking a female-skewed audience of a genre show, a medical show, and skewing it toward the male audience. The pendulum swang a little too far in that direction, we’re pulling it back the other way, and we’re getting really good. That must have been pretty disheartening to hear the rumors in the fall of Trauma being cancelled and left for dead.
I skipped over all of that because I didn’t want to focus on it. That is not going to help me enjoy my work and is not going to help enjoy my life. Rabbit as a character is somebody who despite all of his flaws and all the tragedy happening around him, he’s just a fun guy in a lot of ways. He’s not the brightest guy at times – he’s got room to grow in terms of how he approaches life, and that’s what keeps me interested in him as an actor. But I just really love his enthusiasm for life. I really admire people who are clear about what they love, and they just go for it. That’s really helped me as an actor to think, “You know, I’m gonna approach it with the same attitude.” People can say what they say. I’m loving my job, loving my work, love the people around me, and I’m going to come to work every day and have the best time I can.
What do you think? Do you think Trauma has a chance at returning? If it is cancelled, would you like to see Curtis (or even “Rabbit”) to land on another series?

I love Rabbit too. Any chance USA or TNT would snap this show up?
They love shows with characters–love the interaction between Nancy and Rabbit. Please bring it back. Are you listening USA or TNT this is another wonderful show for you to pick up and run with it. I find those two channels have the dynamic dramas that we’re all looking for…NBC is really stupid to let so many good shows slip through their fingers.
Go Trauma!
Completely agree with Jennifer. NBC set this show up to fail from the very beginning. Probably because I’ll bet the production values are way high. Just filming time of the helicopter must cost a pretty penny. BUT you would think that would be one of the many reasons to keep this show. How many other high quality production shows can you think of. I also started watching this show as a fan of Cliff Curtis but the other characters are growing in terms of range and the story lines are getting so much better. Will definitely miss this show. Can’t… Read more »
I agree with these people ………it would be a BIG mistake to cancel this show! Give it a chance, Please…… Run all episodes this summer and see what happens, Thank you.
The first few months the show was on it was opposite monday night football….and ehrn they brought it back they had it in the same time sloy as 24 which is a very popular show that is in its final few episodes. NBC doomed this show for failure!!! This was by far my favorite show on TV and I was dying to see what was going to happen after that kiss between nancy and glenn. I guess now I will never know. Thanks NBC!!!! Another wonderful decision!
LOVE this show. I look forward to it every week and think it would be a shame for it not continue.
Love this show, my favorite is Rabbit, although the more I watch it all the actors are great and I will miss them all if the show is not renewed. I would love to see Cliff Curtis in another series if they do not bring back Trauma, he is a great actor along with a great personality and sense of humor. Please give Trauma a second chance!!!!!!!!!!
Really love this show. It is my favorite that was released in 2009. Love watching every single episode. Please don’t cancel. Need to put more work in marketing. It is a really good show. Love it
Trauma is MONDAY!!! I’m not understanding what others are NOT seeing. The show is great. I am extremely disappointed in the network. The show has been grounded and never had an opportunity to take flight. The tone of the show is captivating. The characters and story both fascinating. What a mistake. Maybe if the show was given the entire season and more advertisement, the ratings would follow. NBC, you have a history of having little faith in your shows and cancelling them within the first couple of months (when they’re learning to walk). It’s no wonder I usually don’t tune… Read more »
Please bring the show back on. Here it is Monday and there is absolutely no tv on tonight without Trauma.
I really enjoy watching Trauma. It’s the one show on television that I look forward to watching. It would be a shame to cancel such a great show. I’m sure the ratings are difficult because it’s up against DWTS. If I had a choice between the two, there would be no question. My hopes are to see season two.
Awesome show with a great cast and excellent story lines. NBC would be making a huge mistake by canceling the show. If NBC continues to cancel or try to cancel, shows like Chuck, Trauma and The Philanthropist, they will soon find themselves behind CBS, FOX and ABC in the network ratings. If they aren’t already.
Love the show. Dedicated to watching every episode. Characters are great. Every one of them has that witty edge to them that I just love. I really hope this show comes back for a 2nd season, because it really deserves another chance. I think as more people begin to give it recognition, it has the potential to grow into an even more so absolutely AMAZING, DRAMATIC, and HILARIOUS show. Please don’t cancel!
Absolutely LOVE the show. Please don’t cancel it!
I started watching Trauma because of Cliff Curtis but as the show progressed I because interested in the other characters as well. I thought the show was just starting to find its feet when we got the news it had been cancelled. Even when they decided to give it more episodes, they didn’t promote it and I only found out by accident that it was back on. It felt like the network was only using it as filler, not as a show they believed in. I hope they give it a second chance, but don’t expect that they will. I… Read more »
The show is the best show out there, its not like other shows that seem to live in a fantasyland of outrageous, unrealistic storylines and plot twists. NBC will be making another big mistake if they cancel the show. They just need to give it a chance and i bet you it will become one of the bigest shows ever. Every show starts off bad, but this show has improved so much, in my opinion, the only reason why it seemed to do bad was because NBC keeped on messing with it. If they would have just let it be… Read more »
“its not like other shows that seem to live in a fantasyland of outrageous, unrealistic storylines and plot twists”
What!? That’s about all it is, and this is coming from someone that actually works in EMS. NBC should have hired paramedics to work on the show, and they should have taken the time to listen to their input. But inaccuracies aside, basically everything about this show has been outrageous and unrealistic.
I totally agree! I love that show and can’t believe they canceled the season finale to air a rerun of Law & Order, which I might add, I never watch! How incredibly disappointing. 🙁 NBC just doesn’t know a good gig when its staring them in the face.
