Fans of NBC’s Trauma series have had a season of ups and downs. The TV show got off to a poor start in the ratings and then was essentially cancelled when NBC decided not to purchase any episodes beyond the initial 13 installments. Later, because the peacock network needed additional original programming, they kept it in production and ordered an additional seven episodes.
Unfortunately, the show’s ratings got worse and worse and NBC later cut the final episode order to 18 installments. Last night’s was the last. Looking at the ratings, it’s hard to imagine that NBC would consider ordering another season of Trauma.
Still, one of the show’s star’s, Cliff Curtis (Rabbit), remains hopeful that Trauma will be back for year two and refused to let the show’s prospects influence his work. He recently spoke to USAWeekend and here’s a portion of that conversation…
Have you got any word on if Trauma will get a second season?
We’re still in the mix despite all reports of being cancelled. I’m still contracted till May 17, which will be the day I find out what I’m doing. They haven’t cut me loose to go and take first position on any other projects. We’re all watching.Would your first choice be to have another year of Rabbit?
I love Rabbit as a character, he’s fantastic. We can get better – we’ve come a long way and we started off with a very broad concept: Basically taking a female-skewed audience of a genre show, a medical show, and skewing it toward the male audience. The pendulum swang a little too far in that direction, we’re pulling it back the other way, and we’re getting really good. That must have been pretty disheartening to hear the rumors in the fall of Trauma being cancelled and left for dead.
I skipped over all of that because I didn’t want to focus on it. That is not going to help me enjoy my work and is not going to help enjoy my life. Rabbit as a character is somebody who despite all of his flaws and all the tragedy happening around him, he’s just a fun guy in a lot of ways. He’s not the brightest guy at times – he’s got room to grow in terms of how he approaches life, and that’s what keeps me interested in him as an actor. But I just really love his enthusiasm for life. I really admire people who are clear about what they love, and they just go for it. That’s really helped me as an actor to think, “You know, I’m gonna approach it with the same attitude.” People can say what they say. I’m loving my job, loving my work, love the people around me, and I’m going to come to work every day and have the best time I can.
What do you think? Do you think Trauma has a chance at returning? If it is cancelled, would you like to see Curtis (or even “Rabbit”) to land on another series?

Wow! I had no idea that the program was having so much difficulty. I discovered the show late last year. I live in San Francisco and kept bumping into production sites around town. I watched episodes on-line to catch up and fell in love with the show and it’s characters. Sure, the show has some uneven areas and medical technical errors; but so what! It takes a while to develop an audience AND Monday night isn’t a great spot for a show that has BOTH complicated characters (for girls) and great action (for boys). Come on NBC! Give the show… Read more »
Great show! Can’t understand why ratings were so low. Give it more time.
please don’t cancel Trauma. it is a great show and I look forward to seeing it on Monday. if it’s up against another powerful show, please find a spot for it somewhere else, maybe Wednesday night? I don’t know, I’m sure there’s got to be a good place for it in the tv lineup where people would watch. you haven’t given this show a chance.
Please bring back Trauma for another Season Two I love the show, It’s nothing like ER it’s more diffrent then that. This one has more drama and funny moments to it. It needs another season two Please NBC Bring The Show Back ?. Just Remember one thing all the money you put on this show just letting it go to wase it’s not that good money does not grow on trees. So One More Time Bring Trauma Back For Another Season Two !!!
I can’t believe that they’ve cancelled Trauma once again. I don’t know why people love “Mercy” so much and won’t give “Trauma” the time of day. I tried to get into watching “Mercy” and didn’t really see the turn about the show. “Trauma” was far more exciting and always kept you on the edge with the way they made every medical emergency seem so real. I really wish they would consider giving “Trauma” another season. It would be a major injustice if they didn’t.
Please bring Trauma back. This show has so much to offer. I love the suspense and the humor. This is one show that isn’t about sex and who is popular. This show is soo much better then Mercy if they had to cancel one show let it be Mercy over Trauma.
Don’t let the show end!
I think the real reason that NBC is failing so hard is the inconsistency of the programing and a complete lack of communication with the viewers, at least for positive news, they were all about the big announcement that it was cancelled in October but not a blip on the radar to announce that it was back on in March. Trauma is a great show that NBC put at a disadvantage from the start, on the first day of premier week that ran a 2 hour premier of Heroes instead (I hope that was worth it!), they put it up… Read more »
Trauma is one of the very few televisions shows that I enjoy viewing. I’m over 60 and there are not very many shows that I enjoy watching. PLEASE SAVE TRAUMA!!!!
DON’T CANCEL TRAUMA!! Leave the show alone and quit worrying about the politics of offending someone. The show is more real than you think. I am a flight nurse and I find it very entertaining and after all, isn’t that what TV is all about?
We were all ready for last night’s Trauma, only to find out that it had been cancelled again. They couldn’t even show a finale! I don’t think your figures are coming from people who enjoy adult drama. If those were the ones you were sampling, Trauma would be through the roof. And, don’t lose sight of the fact that people over 60 are going to be your bread and butter in the next few years, since they will be more of a majority. Please alert your analysts to what is important in these polls. The people who are watching the… Read more »
I rushed home so I won’t miss Trauma come to find out that it’s cancelled again! This is one of the few good shows on TV…please don’t cancel the show I love all the characters!
I love Trauma!!! Please dont cancel it!!! Its a great show and the characters are fantastic!!!
TRAUMA DESERVES ANOTHER SEASON…IT’S ONE OF THOSE SHOWS THAT NEEDS MORE THAN ONE SEASON TO DEVELOP AND A SECOND SEASON WILL PROVE THAT! THIS IS A GREAT SHOW WITH ENORMOUS DEPTH, EXCELLENT WRITING AND ACTING, WIT, HEART AND CHARACTER.
PLEASE don’t cancel this show. We’ve bonded with the characters. They can’t leave us in a lurch! Who can we contact to keep the show running? If they have to leave, I’d love to see Curtis in Mercy. He’d be a great shake up character and I’d love to see him in a more romantic role.
TRAUMA was one show that NBC could count on but as usual, they think it will not work for them. Really get your head where it belongs, try running a good show for a complete season and quit messing with it you might be surprised that your ratings might actually be up.
I agree!!!! I am a flight nurse and alot of the time the show is correct whether the higher powers at be want to believe it or not!!!
